GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS Delivers the Dramatic Goods

Powerhouse cast is ablaze in David Mamet's scorching, Pulitzer Prize -winning theatrical indictment on man's inhumanity to man as seen through the microcosm of a small-time real estate office's underhanded salesmen and how they scratch and claw to stay afloat in the ruthless business after a downsizing session alerts them all that two of the lowest selling workers will be put on the chopping block. Al Pachino, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin ( as the axeman in a bravura scene especially written for the film ) and Kevin Spacey are all terrific, but it just may be Jack Lemmon's Shelley"The Machine" Levine that nails an out-of-the-park home run as the washed up desperate old-school salesman who will do just about anything to keep his job. The language here is as course as it comes but somehow in Mamet's style it becomes poetic.
