    Girl Rising

    by hc99031

This movie is powerfully moving and uplifting in that it challenges those of us who are so very lucky to become involved somehow to try to make things better for all girls who have very little hope. Take your daughters definitely, but also take your sons. They need to see what hell so many girls have to survive because of men. Hopefully they will come out of the movie feeling that they must be part of the solution to give these young women a vista of opportunities wherever they live.

    Girl Rising

This movie was so tastefully done, with its message to the audience loud and clear. Most appealing was that it was highly successful without the need for graphic details about the horriffic and inhumane treatment of girls and women in many of third world countries. I brought my 10 year old granddaughter with me to see the movie, as it was rated PG13. I wondered what, if anything, she would take with her from seeing Girl Rising. Before we even left the theater, she expressed so effervescently her gratitude for freedom, and independence, and the right and privilege to a "free" education. That response, by itself, made our trip to this movie unforgetable.

This movie is so timely and even more meaningful if you check out the Campaign that goes with it - see 10x10act.org or Girl Rising on facebook.

    Girl Rising - A True Must-See

Girl Rising is well worth seeing for all audiences, young and old, and it does an outstanding job of showing how critical the support for girls' educational opportunities is to all of us.

    Inspiring

    by sbseck

This movie, while a bit long, was an outstanding portrayal of the plight of young girls across the world. Working in the forensic setting, I was aware of these horrific acts but found the movie a professionally developed public media campaign that will draw the attention of viewers to modern day victimization. I recommend it to all. I took my Girl Scout troop, who were all the same age as these girls. They were shocked by the differences in the world for girls their age. We definitely had to debrief afterwards. There is discussion about rape, trafficking, death, and human slavery, so consider this when taking children.

Makes me feel lucky to have had a wonderful education!

I think every young girl in America should view this film. I think it would help place value on the importance of education and how precious a gift it is here in the U.S.

    Amazing Collaborative Art

    by

Girl Rising was overwhelming in the best possible way. Visually stunning, heart-wrenching, inspiring, beautiful. The mixture of creative nonfiction, personal narrative, and diverse visual styles made it a rich experience. I definitely recommend this film!

    "Girl Rising" rocks!

    by figling

This movie is a must-see for women everywhere! I would love to see it shown in schools nationwide. Beautifully shot and imaginatively presented, the heart wrenching stories about girls in third world countries and what they have to do to get educations much less survive without being raped and married off as children, should be experienced by every girl who takes her freedoms and education in the United States for granted. See it!

    Extraordinary

    by

This was so empowering. I wish I had seen something like this when I was a young girl. I loved hearing their stories and how they overcame such incredible odds. It was fascinating to see where they live, the people, the clothing, the atmosphere. Beautiful stories, and beautiful movie. Plelase go see this!

    Feminine Power

"Girl Rising" is very powerful in that it enables us to enter the daily lives of 9 exceptional young women. It portrays the courage it takes for an increasing number of women to stand for freedom to shape their own destinies despite age old cultural messages that tell them they are not persons, but property. It repeats over and over the beneficial effects for our planet of educating girls with appropriate statistics. And it shows that there are some men that are working to end the subjugation and marginalization of women. It's also very strategic to educate and empower women. When we have equal voice we naturally direct our energy towards ending hunger, poverty and injustice. I'm grateful to the outstanding producers, directors, actors, screen writers, cinematographers and cinema owners who collaborated to show this film in theatres across the country and would like to know if it will be shown in schools and other venues.

    Disappointing

I was really hopeful that this movie would be a shared WOW experience for my daughter and I. But that cat the root causes of poverty was left untouched. How helpful is it to give a girl and education if she suffers the loss of her father's health and life too early because of his work in unsafe gold mines, if she lives in a world surrounded by orphaned children living in dumps or people whose slum housing is destroyed in violent waves? If she lives in a world that disrespects women and girls so that there is no chance of equality for her. In the 60s and 70s it was all about zero population growth. That was to be the solution to poverty. Its not that its not valuable for girls to get an education, yes, I want each one to have one. But its not going to solve all of poverty any more than birth control will be the final solution. We have to talk about how too much money is controlled by too few people and all the ways that that happens and how to change it. This movie does not do that.

    Girl Rising

I have 2 sisters, 1 older 1 younger. Because of the way my elder sister took care of me and my other 2 siblings, I wished for a daughter 3 times! I wasn't fortunate to have any, I got 3 sons. I am regarded a special with my mother and relatives, they says I'm a boy producer?! My 3 sons are handsome young boys! Daughter are special, beautiful and without females no one would be born! It amazes me how some cultures TODAY still treat females! My mother is still alive, we have very special relationship as well as my sisters! I did ride through the emotional roller coaster of confusion, sadness, anger and happiness!

    Very well done!
