What moved me to see this Gangster Squad is that it was based on a true story. And that it was about the Good Guys going after the Bad Guys.
It was violent, more violence than I am comfortable with, but the actors and leading actress were outstanding. Great scenes, brilliant, excellent movie.

It's basically a shoot-em-up, actiony mafia movie. It's done well, and the acting is exceptional.
It seems the greatest flaw is that they tried to make it REALLY AWESOME (an effort that was not subtle,) and therefore makes us aware of the fact that the movie is NOT Really Awesome while we're watching it.
But it WAS Really Good. It's got its obvious flaws, and a few cheesy parts that take you out of the movie a little. But it's a good story and has mostly likable characters. Seann Penn did awesomely at being the sadistic, power-hungry boss. A must-see for the villain lovers out there. :]

Very disappointing to say the least! Not worth your time or money. Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling are good actors, but they seemed to be forced into overacting throughout the movie. Movie was not at all realistic at any turn and totally predictable. Ryan Gosling was out of place in the role of a tough guy but tried to overact to compensate for his misplacement in the movie. Scenes were very authinic but the unbelievable action was very poorly done by the director.

Alright, so we've got Ryan Gosling the 'ladykiller', typecast as usual, tangentially related to the story of Mickey, but doesn't actually do much besides sweep Emma Stone off her feet.
You know how in a chick-flick or a "romantic-comedy" how there are moments that make you shift in your seat with uncomfortableness? Moments that are too cheesy for real life, usually, and this movie has PLENTY.
Seriously, someone's last words are a quote that was already said in the movie "Remember, shoot where he's going to be, not where he is." *shoots* *saves josh brolin's life* *dies*.
Also, Ryan Gosling (Jerry)'s best friend gets killed. Literally murdered in front of Emma Stone. She runs up to him later "HE FOUGHT LIKE HELL". And suddenly it's never important again that OH WAIT JERRY'S BEST FRIEND IS DEAD. But he doesn't care because, well, poor acting I guess.
Basic, basic filmmaking with huge names to soften the blow of a poorly directed, basic american "feel good"

If you like The Untouchables or vigilante justice then this one is right up your alley.Be aware that although this is based on true facts, Hollywood has taken liberties in it's reenactment of actual events.
