Gangster Squad is stylish and action packed, sort of what you get if you cross the plot of The Untouchables with the stylization of The Cotton Club and then bring the whole thing down to the level of a comic book. James Ellroy this isn't, but the movie is good fun as long as you don't expect much more than ultra-stylish action performed by snazzily attired actors.

My kind of movie: hot guys and lots of action!!! Even my husband enjoyed it, even though he always tries to dislike any movie w/ Ryan Goshling in it! All the actors did a great job, and it was interesting to watch Ryan Goshling act beside the actor from My Two Dads b/c they always reminded me of each other.
Story line kept it interesting and made it not feel like an almost two hour movie.
I recommend it!!

This movie wasn't really on our list to see, but we ended up there based on a good show time. Glad that we did. It had great action and well placed laughs. The acting was great and you were at least a bit invested even with the characters that weren't very central or well fleshed out. Have to say, we had no expectations going in, but we loved it.

It surprised me. My husband loves gangster-type movies... I have a tendency to shy away from period movies like this. I was pleasantly surprised how grabbed me and kept my attention. Great acting, especially by Sean Penn. He never ceases to amaze me how he is absorbed into the character. You forget he is an actor.
Go see it. A bit bloody, but that is to be expected with this genre.
