Studio Ghibli is known for movies such as My Friend Totoro, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle. They have created some of the most amazing fantasy stories ever told or seen.
This is not one of those movies.
For Studio Ghibli fans, From Up On Poppy Hill is more like Only Yesterday and Whisper Of The Heart. This movie tells the story of real people dealing with real life. But, like their other movies, it has that quality that make all of Studio Ghibli's work so good: it has heart. It tells an interesting story that draws us in, and makes us care about what happens next.
Not sure how much folks under 12-years-old will get this, because it involves a love story between a high school girl and boy. Other than that, I'd say everyone else will like this movie.
Unless your that mean old man at the end of the street who has no friends.

Get ready to be immersed in the Japanese Culture! From up on Poppy Hill is a home run for any avid Miyazaki fan. If it seems a little slow, just be patient. There is wonderful character development going on that makes the ending very much worth while.

This is a nice humanistic story about love, and family. Light hearted in a really good way.

This movie is a delight. A perfectly subtle and light movie. Animation, especially the backgrounds is lovely, the story sweet with depth. Go see it!
