Feb. 9 - I just attended the advance press preview of this 95-minute remake of the 1980 movie - and I must confess that I enjoyed this remake immensely - because:-
1) good production values
2) good performances overall by the capable cast - especially Jared Padalecki
3) good directing and good editing
4) good scary suspenseful scenes
Although this movie is a remake, it is one of the better ones nowadays lately in the mindless horror/gory/scarefest genre.
However, I was dismayed by the blatant nudity, overt sexual situations, and in-your-face drug use in the movie.
Also, I felt that in some scenes the dialogue was lame and prosaic.
I gave it a B because the movie did deliver on the suspense/horror/gory aspects. The minus is for the above - plus the fact that the ending DEFINITELY tags a sequel.
A must-see for horror-genre fans - and for fans of the Friday The 13th movie franchise.
Be prepared to grip your seat.
Totally inappropriate for kids.

Ok so I went to the premier of this on sat in nyc.
first of all, this is a remake. but it's not your typical remake. It took a turn on remakes and did a mash-up of sorts. It takes elements from F 13 P1, P2 and p3, and incorporates them into a brand new movie. So technically I will not call this a remake. Yet the writers idea of what the story lines from part 1 2 and 3 would be if they were one movie.
Derek Mears is a beast of a human being, and it shows as he is a massive Jason.. Bigger than Kane Hodder.
The death scenes are good.. (although my fav being in Freddy Vs.. with the bed), but they were good i promise.
The comedy aspect of it is perfect for the 18-35 range. its dirty, but hysterical. Very collegiate to young adult comedy. (me being 27 and somewhat immature, it was perfect)
With every slasher, you have sex.. good sex too. haha.
the movie was amazing.
if you are a fan of the series, you wont be let down, I promise you.

I am a fan of the previous Friday The 13th films and I was excited that they were "remaking" the original one. I attended an early screening of this film and my overall opinion is that is the best among the Friday The 13th movies, I absolutely loved it. If you liked the other ones you will love this one. The film was surprisingly much different than the original Friday The 13th, it had similarities but it was an entirely different plot. I loved the actors that were cast in this film, Jared Padalecki has so much talent, having him in this movie was an excellent choice. Derek Mears did an amazing job as Jason, he took Jason to another level. I truly think you should see this film, it will have you jumping in your seats. Do not judge it as just another Jason movie and neglect to see it. This film is perhaps the best horror film I have ever see and I have seen plenty. ^__^

Marcus Nispel and Michael Bay are back from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2003 with the "new" Jason Voorhees and Friday the 13th. Their two movies are eerily similar in too many ways, including the acting and the abrupt jolts at unsuspecting moments (Not to mention its noticeable similarity to Adam Green's Hatchet in 2006). This Friday remake appears to draw a more sophomoric audience as well as the loyal horror movie fans. Mix an attractive cast, alcohol and drugs, and plenty of nudity with a machete and a madman out for revenge and you get Friday the 13th (2009). Even though most reviewers are saying there isn't much depth to the story, I enjoyed the majority of it. (B-)
