Yes, it's true. I went on Christmas day. I was blown away by its emotional power. Hint: if you are expecting a movie version of the sensational Broadway show you will be surprised, and I dare say disappointed. (This is what I gather from negative reviews that compare it to the show.) I admit I was shocked in the beginning at the imperfect singing. Some of it thin, breathy, even off-pitch. But before too long I was swept away. No, this movie is a different treatment. And brilliant in MHO. The characters are real, the story is real. The singing is real and raw and robust and tender. Anne Hathaway's "Dream a Dream" performance is utterly devastating. It started the tears for me and I never recovered. I saw it again on the 27th and the 29th.
