Charlize Theron makes a fierce villain and there<wbr /> are a handful of nifty visual effects but other<wbr />wise pretty much nothing in this faerie-tale adv<wbr />enture movie really works all that well.  None o<wbr />f the action is exciting and the movie is never <wbr />as dark and violent as it needed to be to pull o<wbr />ff what it was trying.  Kristen Stewart is a ver<wbr />y odd choice for Snow White--she isn&#39;t a bad act<wbr />ress but she&#39;s also pretty far from being a grea<wbr />t beauty and having characters repeatedly refer <wbr />to her as one doesn&#39;t make it so.  She will neve<wbr />r be more beautiful than Theron, although I thin<wbr />k the filmmakers were counting Snow White&#39;s inne<wbr />r beauty plus the fact that the evil queen would<wbr /> age if she used magic or didn&#39;t steal the youth<wbr /> of young maidens into the mix to justify how th<wbr />e plain Stewart could be judged more beautiful t<wbr />han the stunning Theron.  There&#39;s also no functi<wbr />oning love story in spite of the fact that the m<wbr />ovie needs one after Snow eats the poisoned appl<wbr />e. This was a boring dud.
