My husband and I enjoyed this movie. We both thought 3 D was lost o it, though (the previews were better). And, I know that the use of B&W was a creative choice, but frankly (weenie), I'm there to be entertained an not to wax poetic about film technique. The movie lagged in places. But, on the bright side, it's a smart film, and really funny. It's best if you know a little about the Frankenstein story or some of the jokes may be lost on you. It's sweet and dark, like good bittersweet chocolate. I only said so-so because I went 3D and like I said it's not "so" good that I coudn't have waited. But, if you have a few bucks and a couple of hours to spare you won't go wrong!

In a way this is full circle for Tim Burton, returning to give length to an early short film that nearly ruined his career but by doing so, he made have made another contribution to his eerie cinematic legacy. I had low expectations for this film, but it lived up to the hype generated by fellow critics and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the black and white style of animation that should get attention from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Pretty lame. You can clearly see Disney's hand in it b/c they attempt to make Sparky as cute as Ole' yeller. I think all they have in the movie is that dumb dog barking and licking. Given how the dog never listens why would you ever re-animate it? I would also expect a bit more from Tim Burton. Maybe he peaked eons ago but there was no disturbing edginess to this at all. I think the highlite to me was guessing who the various characters were in real life (great Vincent Price BTW). Also there are two glaring errors that did not escape my 10 year olds eyes. First was the magically appearing swing set on the rook of the house and secondly Van Helsing was a vampire slayer not a frankenstein's monster chaser.

Ive never written a review and signed up specially for this movie. Its a GREAT film. Both myself and my daughter (7yrs old) enjoyed it immensely. The visual effects are amazing and the story so original that its hard not to see this nominated for an Oscar.
