What a wonderfully post-modern movie about love in its many different forms and a young woman's struggle to find her identity. Frances is a great friend to others who has a difficult time being candid with those around her. In fact, she often seems to go out of her way to misrepresent her situation to save face because she doesn't seem to want to face up to her reality. She once says, "I'm too tall to marry." She's also just affluent enough to not be poor and just poor enough to be reckless with what little she has. Her friends seem to value her, but not quite as much as she values them. She's clearly lonely and desperately seeking love and friendship, yet can't really seem to find either. She is carefree, for the most part, or at least seems to be surviving her predicament one move at a time. It all makes for a truly unpredictable and delightful film. The final moments are truly magical.

Like the main character herself, this movie is at times engaging and endearing - though not without flaws. I took my wife to see Frances Ha because all of the mainstream films seemed like they would be unbearable. This looked indie and interesting.
I was not disappointed. The look of the film was great, the somewhat stream of consciousness editing was refreshing. It was easy to like and feel sorry (and hopeful) for Frances. My wife thought it seemed a little student film-y at times. It is not perfect, but if you're looking for something different, it's definitely worth going.

An intriguing look at the slow and winding process of coming of age. Well written and directed. Wonderfully acted. It is a sophisticated story told at a slow pace - sometimes too slow. I liked it!

A sad commentary on how long it takes young adults to grow up nowadays. Also sad commentary on women, and how by portraying one who is incapable, stupid and a mess can get so many critics excited. The movie does one thing: It shows us that the dumber you are, the more critics like you. If your a capable and intelligent woman, you must be evil.

Many people will be annoyed by this little movie, but some will really enjoy it. I did. The main character carries the tale. It is also an insight into the ways of the 20 to 30 year old generation....
