Post-Modern Love!
What a wonderfully post-modern movie about love in its many different forms and a young woman's struggle to find her identity. Frances is a great friend to others who has a difficult time being candid with those around her. In fact, she often seems to go out of her way to misrepresent her situation to save face because she doesn't seem to want to face up to her reality. She once says, "I'm too tall to marry." She's also just affluent enough to not be poor and just poor enough to be reckless with what little she has. Her friends seem to value her, but not quite as much as she values them. She's clearly lonely and desperately seeking love and friendship, yet can't really seem to find either. She is carefree, for the most part, or at least seems to be surviving her predicament one move at a time. It all makes for a truly unpredictable and delightful film. The final moments are truly magical.
