Lots to like about Flight

Few actors completely embody a role quite like Denzel Washington and Robert Zemeckis weaves the story to a fascinating yet predictable conclusion. You can depend on Washington being able to pull you in and as always you become totally invested in his character. You simultaneously pull for him and hope for his success despite his incredible flaws. There may have been a little too much backstory in the Kelly Reilly (Nicole) role that doesn't move the story along. We can completely grasp the fact that she is 'damaged' without all of the details of that damage. The story could have been enhanced better with more details and story of the the plane, the accident, and the subsequent investigation, but seemed as though the Directors decision was to concentrate on Washington's turmoil and fight with his own demons. Don Cheadle was great in his fairly small role, but he is the kind of actor that can stand out in a seemingly second tier part.

Denzel gave the performance of his life. Written beautifully, amaznigly directed and with great tunes, this movie was both funny at times and heartbreakingly sad. This is a must-go for an older-13 and up.

Flight - not as described!

This movie is advertised as "Flight." It should be advertised as "Addiction." This is a great movie for addicts or recovering addicts, but it had almost nothing to do with flight at all. Set against the backdrop of a plane crash, the entire movie centers around the main character's addiction, which is in almost every scene - drinking, drugs, over and over and over. At about the 1 hour mark you just want to scream "We Get It - He Has An Addiction!" Denzel Washington is a great actor, and we always enjoy John Goodman who was excellent in this movie. But this was an 18 minute movie about flight, followed by a 2 hour movie about addiction, and it was a clear, depressing view of how addiction negatively impacts so many lives. It was definitely not as described, and to us, not entertaining, but rather, depressing, slow, drawn out and disappointing.

Worth a 60-mile round trip to the theater

The story here is important. From what I saw in the trailers, I thought the plot would have something to do with sabotage. It does, but not at all in the way I expected. The story may be fiction, but the truth in it is hard fact. This is serious drama with a heart, and a message that can save lives. You will hear a lot about Washington's performance--his power is awesome. He doesn't just play the role, he makes it come to life with a reality that hits hard. It was thrilling to watch him.

One of Denzel Washington's finest roles...my guess is he will be nominated for another Oscar. Briliantly written, perfect acting and the effects were not overdone but just right. Wow...do not miss this film. Don Montalvo, TX
