Denzel Washington's performance, as always, was exemplary, perhaps more so than the script itself, which started strong with the most frightening crash sequence I've ever seen, but slowly declined into Predictableville with Washington, as Captain Whip Whitaker, a functioning alcoholic and substance abuser, continuing to live in denial of his addictions. On the one hand,he is a hero, having saved all but 4 of the people onboard the failing aircraft by landing the plane safely in a field. On the other hand, because he is a well-functioning longtime alcoholic and substance abuser, he believes he can stop anytime, that he has no addiction. Again and again, we watch painfully as he falters and fails, which I personally found very uncomfortable to observe. John Goodman, with a small part as a friend/drug dealer was hilarious. Decent movie, great acting by all of the supporting actors. If I had to pick the best thing about the movie? Of course, Denzel Washington.

It's a story of how one man saves a bunch of lives and does not realize that he also needs to save himself. Go and enjoy the film!!!!

The first 45 min is filled with drugs, overdosing, porn industry, sex, nudity, and denzel playing a drunk pilot that almost kills everyone...classy. It just wasn't enjoyable for me so I left early.

The movie was very good. It appeared so true to life based on some of the stories you
hear about some pilots. The ending was so unexpected. Denzel can make any movie
seem true to life.

Saw an interview with the opening scene actress on one of the talk shows. She told her folks to come 10 minutes late to the movie. Wish someone had told me not to go at all. I did like the flying scenes but the boozing and drug scenes were too much. Walked out after an hour. My neighbor is a pilot for a major airline and he says this is totally bogus.
