Flight - Soaring Above The Rest

    by Darkola

I am going to start off by saying, the only little thing I didnt like about this movie, which is based more now on me being older, and having a wife with me, is the very beginning where they had him in the room with another lady who was running around completely naked from head to toe. That showing did not help the movie at all, if anything it put a negative in somes minds. The rest of the the movie was Oscar material all the way. The story was a great story, and it dealt with so much more then just a pilots instincts on maneuvering a plane thats malfunctioning, it deals with different people surrounding the pilots life, and it ties it all together in great format. The acting is also top notch throughout, Danzel shows that he is one of Hollywoods top actors as far as I am concerned, and all the other actors surrounding him in this were top notch. The filming was better then I imagined, the way they showed the plane crash was very believable. I'd give this 4 of 4 stars, Enjoy :)

Great drama about Drug & Alcohol Abuse

    by pedsarq

I didn't know anything about this movie and was totally surprised to find out that it is about the perils of drug use and alcoholism. Washington plays a highly functional and talented pilot who saves the day. As the audience, we know from the very first frames of this movie that he's an addict of the worst kind, a real party animal. "I drink because I want to," he exclaims repeatedly. Well, there's a terrible plane accident and all indication is that he was a hero and actually saved more lives that anyone else could have. But, does that make it right that he was drunk on vodka and cocaine while flying? The movie does an admirable job of weighing the pros and cons of his actions. But because he can't stop, his destiny is predictable.

    Outstanding! Amazing!

    by CTronge

I have NEVER seen a more amazing movie in my life! Denzel gives the performance of his life. This movie was amazingly complex and simple all at the same time. The acting, script, cinematography and effects were ABOVE what I could have even imagined.

    Compelling film about addiction

Denzel Washington delivers yet another gripping performance as a successful airline pilot struggling with alcohol and substance abuse. The movie immediately starts out with full frontal nudity of a beautiful flight attendant and gratuitous poses. Denzel pulls this one off as a believable addict.

Denzel is smack on and Zemeckis does a great job.

Lots of shock material in this film that will have you thinking about the movie for days. Denzel is completely engrossed in his character's struggles and that pulls you in. The writing is well thought through and makes everyone interesting. The plane crash is perfectly done.
The final moments of the film give the best ending I have seen in a long time. Well done.
    Full price okay.

    Buy A Ticket

This is a story about the patterns in our reality. How does choice, destiny, and random occurrences blend together to create our lives? How do we know which is which, or if either one of them actually exists? Denzel Washington plays an alcoholic cocaine addict who is easy to hate. But he also manages to make you feel sorry for him by showing the human side of the character in such a way that only a practiced hand could do. Beneath the plane crash and the alcoholism lies a truly powerful story. You will want to be on board for this one.

    Oscar

Brilliant. Denzel is the Kung-Fu master of acting. John Goodman is stupendous once again. James Badge Dale is an up-and-coming talent who reminds me of a young Deniro (Mean Streets or Taxi Driver). Some massive talent in this flick and the story line --they're gonna be showing this movie at AA meetings and piloting seminars for decades. Just awesome.

Probably one of Dentzel Washington's best performances - Oscar Candidate

Very good character development, great directing, great story. I know alcoholic's very well and I can empathize with Whip Whithaker struggles - his lows and his highs - the euphoria of the Cocaine high - thinking that we are invincible. How people destroy themselves and every one around them - if we let them. However, people can change. It is a personal decision and it can be done.

    High Up High

Denzel Washington's performance, as always, was exemplary, perhaps more so than the script itself, which started strong with the most frightening crash sequence I've ever seen, but slowly declined into Predictableville with Washington, as Captain Whip Whitaker, a functioning alcoholic and substance abuser, continuing to live in denial of his addictions. On the one hand,he is a hero, having saved all but 4 of the people onboard the failing aircraft by landing the plane safely in a field. On the other hand, because he is a well-functioning longtime alcoholic and substance abuser, he believes he can stop anytime, that he has no addiction. Again and again, we watch painfully as he falters and fails, which I personally found very uncomfortable to observe. John Goodman, with a small part as a friend/drug dealer was hilarious. Decent movie, great acting by all of the supporting actors. If I had to pick the best thing about the movie? Of course, Denzel Washington.

Keep the young kids at Home! - Great Movie though

    by ccrios

Well I took my 14 year old based on the original overview, let's just say within the first three minutes of the movie it has, drug use, alcohol use (yes it's at 7am) and full frontal nudity. Now I'm not a prude but really a lot to handle right away for my sons eyes I thought. Excellent movie though, my mom went too and liked it. John Goodman is stellar and the music in the film is fabulous. Heavy movie, lots of addict personalities come up in the film so be prepared for that. Denzel is as always one of the best actors ever, you come away not liking him at first but liking his humanizing display of alcohol addiction. All three of us walked out talking about how great a show this was!

Addicts don't believe they have a problem...but they do.

"Flight" has a good cast of characters within it. Denzel Washington portrays a pilot (captain) who's quite believable -- especially, his alcohol and substance abuse problems. I can understand how scenes may show some lighthearted, even comical parts ( particularly with John Goodman); but I wasn't laughing, as many of the audience did. One may criticize me for being too serious; however, I watched a man with a serious alcohol / drug problem. As the film played out to the end; the acting was quite well done.

    Outstanding Movie !!!!!!!

I wasn't sure what kind of movie this was going to be. It started a little slow and made you wonder where it was going to go. Was a little taken back at first with the language as ii is not typical for Denzel to play that type of role. But boy it turned out to be an amazing thriller and very moving movie. It is a must see. If you have someone that you are trying to help with an addiction, take them to see it. What a great message it brings out.

A First Class Seat to action and suspense!

From the opening scene until the very end, this movie is fast paced and interesting. I was hesitant to be excited for a 2 hour 18 minutes run time, but loved every minute of it! Denzel Washington was exceptional. And John Goodman was much needed comic relief. This movie keeps yo on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
