LOVE

Saw the first showing of this movie. I didnt know what to expect. The trailer portrayed it as somewhat of a cheerful romantic comedy of sorts. This movie is comprised of a mixture of feelings and emotions. (love, hate, joy, distress, lust, faith, etc...) You can see what "real" love is in this movie and the journeys people take just for that love. I loved every part of this movie, excpet for some of the nudity. Some of it could have been left out, but the rest of the movie blended it in to forget about it. I was really drawn into the actors with their emotions and problems. Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear really played the part. They were amazing. You learn something great from this movie. (which i will let you figure out on your own when you see it) I will gladly see this again.

"Feast of Love"

"Feast of Love" is a weeper. Bring lots of tissue. As you recognize yourself in the characters on-screen, you will bawl silently. This movie is for anyone whom has ever loved and not been loved in return. It's for anyone who has loved someone and found out that they didn't really know them at all. It's also for people who haven't found love and are desperately aching for it. Lastly, "Feast of Love" is for anyone who lives and breathes. Each actor does an exceptional job with their roles, in particular Toby Hemingway who portrays Oscar as a sensitive, passionate young man with a scarred soul. Every scene works. I was never bored. I enjoyed the way all the characters and sub-plots were neatly intertwined with the perfect amount of suspense. This is a movie that lends itself to discussion. You will be talking about this movie with your friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers -- even strangers you meet in line. "Feast of Love" is an uplifting work of art.

So-so

An excellent movie to rent

I rated this movie so-so based on the vastly misleading preview depicting it as a feel-good comedy type of film. The acting and the story are very well done but it's got ALOT of nudity/sex scenes and it's a roller-coaster ride of emotions with humor being more of a backseat to the drama.

It's worth renting and even seeing in the theater if you know what you're in for. Definitely not one for the kids, or even younger teens.

Many faces of love

I really enjoyed this movie. The last half hour was wonderful, sad, and emotionaly draining. There is a lot of nudity so it can't be recommended for everyone, which is unfortunate. There is a strong message for love and survival that could be appreciated by many.
I was sobbing as the credits were rolling.

Feast of Love

This is definitely about love and relationships, but not your typical chick flick movie. Not light and fluffy or boring but very deeply intense and the acting was wonderful. A strong message about letting go of what doesn't work and accepting that love is love sometimes beyond our control. It covers the magic of attraction and that "love is everything" !

There is also the subject of death of a dearly loved one. A tear jerker for the feminine - I'm afraid.

If you want to come home appreciating and honoring what you HAVE and embracing the one you love - this is the movie.

Very good, but not for everbody

This was an extremely touching film, and one that had both myself and the missus weeping at the end. Definitely not for everybody; nothing blows up, nobody turns into robot cars, and there were no car chases. The acting was top-notch, and I was pleasantly surprised at the tasteful full-frontal nudity throughout the film. Very old-school, it was!! Two thumbs up.

Love Barf

This was one of the greatest hoaxes in the history of cinema. I took my wife to see it after a long week of work, thinking it would cheer her up and be a fun way to start the weekend. Instead, we sat through the two most depressing hours of our young lives only to be ravaged of all hope and all optimism about the future. Don't be decieved - this is not a movie about love. There is scarcely any love, let alone a feast. This is the Ethiopia or Sudan of amorous nutrition . . . this movie should instead be called feast of lies, deception, darkness and death. If those words appeal to you, bon appetite. The end.

Sexy and Sad

If you are looking for the typical "Chick Flick" this is not it. At the start of the movie on up to about half-way through it you're wondering "does this movie have a point?", there's a lot of sex and nudity... but by the end it is very clear what the point is. I think, based upon most of the reviews I have read here, that most people missed that point though and concentrated on the sex instead (yes, there was enough of that to be a diversion). But it showed just how indomitable the human spirit is. I actually cried - last movie to do that to me was "A Walk To Remember". Won't go into detail though, incase you want to see it. The only negative I would give it is that it seemed to rely upon the sex to show relationships developing and could have achieved this by other means. Good acting all around.

Excellent make-you-think movie

Though some might say this movie is "slow," the length and pace are exactly what the story calls for. The characters were very-well developed, and the viewer is treated with a surprise in characterization at the end -- the sage of the movie is one-upped by the innocent. As the title indicates, it provides a broad look at what love can do to people -- it can blind those that wish to be blinded, it can rescue those that need rescuing, and it can breathe life into the emotionally dead. I highly recommend this film for couples both young and old.

Okay Chick Flick

The movie was okay for the most part. It proves that there are some guys out there that look for love rather than love finding them. It wasn't until his 3rd try that love found him. Some guys are so in love with the idea of being love that they are just clueless!! I know one in real life and he's a dumb as a box of rocks. Morgan Freeman's character is the wisest one of the bunch. At least he had a clue. In the end, it was okay but best if you wait for HBO or DVD. A matinee might be okay but let this movie be the last on your list to want to see. You'll understand why later. CFG

Too many twisted and depressing sub-plots. These charactors had either no common sense or not an ounce of virtue. I didn't no whether to slap them or pity them. And, how a writer could place them in one big happy family after all this pain is ludicrous. Good acting, but horrible writing.

Great cast in a slow, thoughtful movie

Has some wonderful moments, and I really liked the message to throw yourself into love but keep both eyes open. This is essentially a chick flick so I guess the producers decided to throw in some "tasteful" full frontal nudity and sex scenes to keep the guys involved, which as a guy I can appreciate but be forewarned if that puts you off. Sometimes they treated Portland as a small town where everyone runs into everyone else at just the right/wrong time, which got a little tedious. This is a slow movie but its pacing fits the subject matter, namely, how relationships develop, blossom and/or degrade. A couple of scenes did not work for me but overall a good date movie, especially for those who have already love and lost.

Spend your $15 buying the book.

Charles Baxter's novel is by turns moving, lusty, hard, scary, funny, and bittersweet. It's filled with wonderful language and an insightful and hopeful look at al the many facets of love.

This film takes removes all the magic from the story by reducing it to mere plot. Hollywood, once again, has taken something truly wonderful and completely crushed the life out of it. If you're really interested in partaking in The Feast of Love, I suggest going out and buying Charles Baxter's book. Here's a little help:

Intense

They make this movie look like a comedy, which parts of it are indeed funny, but it is very intense. It is the most I have cried in a movie between the pain and the joy.

Disappointing!

The book was an exceptional read and the movie fell far short, missing main points in the story. Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear were good. Gratuitous sex scenes. Stay at home, BUT READ THE BOOK!
