Late last night, news broke that producer Laura Ziskin had died after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 61. Throughout the night and into today, Hollywood has been tweeting their thoughts and condolences to the Ziskin family and friends. Here are a few of them.
Here’s to original blockbusters! On Friday 73% of you picked Super 8 to win the weekend, and you were right on the money. The film many counted out because of its lack of stars and mysterious marketing campaign managed to kick those X-Men to the curb for a spot at the top of the weekend box office.
Last night's Tony Awards were memorable for several reasons, many of which involve Neil Patrick Harris as host. NPH admitted he had to do something regarding Spider-Man's tumultuous year in which the musical shut down several times due to re-writes and unfortunate accidents. So instead of throwing out one or two jokes, NPH popped 30 seconds on the clock and just went off.

The 2011 Summer Blockbuster Season continues this weekend with the release of the summer’s only original blockbuster. J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek) wrote and directed Super 8, which hits theaters with a producing credit from Steven Spielberg and a great throwback vibe to the days of Amblin Entertainment and films (like The Goonies and E.T.) where kids were the heroes.

AMC and Regal Cinemas, the two biggest movie exhibitors in the United States (as well as the two biggest competitors) teamed up a few months ago and formed their own shared distribution company called Open Road Films. The first movie the company will distribute will be the action thriller The Killer Elite, starring Jason Statham, Robert de Niro and Clive Owen.
