J.J. Abrams Teases 'Star Trek' Sequel on Conan O'Brien … Sort Of

By: Sean OConnell on October 5, 2012 at 6:52AM Comments (4)

Want to see a quick tease from J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sequel, Star Trek Into the Darkness? And when I say “quick,” I mean ridiculously quick?

Abrams appeared on Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show Thursday with a clip from Darkness, which he claims he’s still editing. Because he considers O’Brien to be a friend, Abrams said that he wanted to bring a clip. The audience cheered. Then Abrams joked that Paramount would only let him bring three frames of footage.

Three frames.

It’s about as quick as you’d assume. And while Abrams does a great job of selling the shot – which shows Spock (Zachary Quinto) in a volcano, wearing a strange suit – it’s a blink-and-you-missed-it snapshot of the upcoming Star Trek. Pretty funny.

See for yourself. Abrams has a good sense of humor, and he knows that the eyes of the world are going to be on his sequel after he and his team successfully rebooted Star Trek with a younger cast.

Into the Darkness will be in theaters on May 17, 2013. Here are three frames from the sequel, courtesy of Abrams. What do you think?

You call that a clip, more like a set photo when Abrams wanted to be secretive in creating one of the biggest movies of next year. Well, we will see a real clip around the holidays just maybe. And I'm crossing my fingers that this will be good as the 2009 original or better, something that The Dark Knight failed to do for me but did for all of you fans of Christopher Nolan's Batman series
