Gary Oldman, Helena Bonham Carter for Akira
Now that Warner Bros. is fully committed to making the Akira live-action movie a reality, it’s time to cast this thing. With the two main roles of Kaneda and Travis (aka Tetsuo) still swirling in the rumor mill, two supporting characters may be getting some famous faces attached to them.
reports that Gary Oldman
is said to have been offered the role of the Colonel Shikishima, the leader of the government team running tests on people with psychic abilities. Helena Bonham Carter
is up for the Priestess Miyako, an ally to the resistance and a former test subject.
No word yet on if either will accept the offers but if so, this remake just got a serious credibility boost.
Would you like to see either one of these actors accept their respective offers?
Eric Bana to Play Elvis Presley
A few years ago it seemed like Eric Bana
was in everything, with appearances in movies ranging from Lucky You
to Star Trek
to The Time Traveler’s Wife
. Then he disappeared in 2010, returning in just one movie this year—the excellent mystery-action-thriller Hanna
opposite Saoirse Ronan.
While the former Hulk
actor preps a pair of films to shoot next year and one in the can ( a crime-thriller co-starring Olivia Wilde), he’ll add another role to his filmography – Elvis.
Yes, Bana can now add his name alongside the likes of Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer and Bruce Campbell as actors to portray The King on the big screen. He’ll star in Cary Elwes
’ directorial debut Elvis and Nixon
, with Danny Huston in final talks to portray the infamous 37th president.
The story is centered on a December 21, 1970 meeting between Presley and Nixon at The White House, initiated by Presley who wrote a letter to the president asking to be make a Federal Agent-at-Large in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. Presley brought family photos and his Colt .45 pistol as a
bribe personal gift to the president.
So what do you think? Does Bana fit the look of the late King?
