'The Family Circus' Becomes Latest Comic Strip to Get Movie Adaptation

By: Derrick Deane on October 19, 2012 at 10:42AM Comments (26)

A couple days ago, Heathcliff was being prepped to make the jump from comic strip to the big screen. Now 20th Century Fox and Walden Media are prepping an adaptation of The Family Circus for a jump to the movie world.

According to Variety, The Game Plan writers Nichole Millard and Kathryn Price have been hired to write a script for the project which has actually been in development since 2010.

It seems comic strips are experiencing another boon which can only lead us to wonder what other comic strips might end up on the big screen? Are there any favorites that you'd like to see make the transition?

Maybe this will move forward that Spy vs. Spy action-comedy WB has been sitting on for a couple years now... Other strips to consider (and I'm just throwing out titles here) Fox Trot, The Far Side (not sure what the concept would be), Pogo, Mutts, Li'l Abner, Opus and Gasoline Alley.

"Fox Trot"!!! <3 It was always a very messed up version of "Growing Pains" to me. :D However, I wonder if they'll include the scenes where the ghost of their granddad is watching over Jeffy...I'd probably be crying... Oh, and they gotta do a "Not Me" bit with the dotted line... Speaking of that, Jason Fox's attempts at making "The Family Circus" has to be one of my favorite bits from the comic...and they're all pretty disturbing. XD

Spy vs. Spy would make an awesome movie! It would be cool if it could also be in black and white.

I agree. Problem is WB thinks it's too much of a niche comic and it'd be difficult to market. Look at Frankenweenie. Good movie, solid reviews, black and white, but just didn't connect.
