The modern Evil Dead was pretty super. What it lacked in suspense, it made up for with classic horror "punch-lines" and raw, old school SFX use. Mild in it's actual scariness, the film has this really classic spooky quality that I miss in the genre--Yet, I could't help but feel like I wasn't being frightened QUITE as much as I expected to be. The trailers made it seem like I was going to be crapping demonic blood spray for a week afterward, as did the SBSW coverage...
The classic Evil Dead was honored without seeming like a parody, and the surprisingly artistic vision of Fred Alvarez (his other movies are painfully meh) stands alone, even if you have never seen an Evil Dead flick. The score was oddly, my favorite part of the movie--Which sounded like a mixture of Beetlejuice-era Danny Elfman and something from The Machinist (which composer Baños actually wrote for) . The movie AND the score was dark, yet classically--sometimes comically--punchy. I give it a 78 100. See it!

I had such high hopes for this film. It was a huge disappointment. It was gory, but not scary like the original. The original is a must see for true horror fans. This one is not worth the cinema ticket price. Wait for dvd or streaming. It was claiming to be one of the scariest movies ever. The original is, but this remake is not. In my opinion The Hills Have Eyes, A Serbian Film, and Texas Chainsaw are much scarier. There is a difference in a gory film and a suspenseful or scary film. This film is gory. A Serbian Film and Texas Chainsaw are scary, suspenseful, and gory. If you have never seen the original this one might be scary.

I admit I'm a read movie buff especially horror movies. I can say I have not been happy with the crap that has been coming out of Hollywood the last few years but, this one was pretty good. It had my heart going(which is rare for me) and the special effect weren't over the top. The cons were, I thought the last few moments were a little too cliche. Directors still don't know how to end a movie. All in all it makes my list of must sees.

The movie is different from the original.yet has similarities. Seeing the original will not spoil this movie. If you're a fan of Evil Dead, you must see this movie. Also, there are a few surprises to be had. Enjoy!!

After seeing the great red band trailer, my anticipation for Evil Dead was high. So I'm glad to report that the movie almost fully lived up to my expectations. The script is solid with a clever yet simple plot, and okay characters. There is a good amount of tension and a few jump scares, but this one is all about the gore. The gore is spectacularly over the top, but still manages to feel pretty real. You will definitely cringe a few times and, if you're like me, you'll love it! The direction here is the standout. Fede Alvarez does a great job of crafting his own world within the Evil Dead universe. He adds several visual touches that are a nice homage to Raimi's trademark kinetic style while still making this movie his own. My only complaints would be a couple plot holes. I also wished that it could have been a bit scarier. There were a few scenes where Alvarez took his time to build up the tension and I would have loved more of that. All-in-all it's one of the best remakes in a while!
