Like most modern "horror"films this was more of a try to scare you with loud bangs and make you cringe using gore movie. For obvious reasons the effects in this remake were significantly better than its 1981 predecessor. That being said the story was changed which personally irritates me because I feel like the writers have no right to take the classic/original and warp it to their liking. Though there some key points and parts in this remake that I felt should have been in the first one to make it better. All in all if you're looking for a truly frightening movie this is not the movie to go see. I give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5

This movie was the best horror movie i have watched this year. But if you don't like gore you might not want to watch this because their is so MUCH blood!!!!! I was not expecting that much gore for this movie. You might want to go with a group of people because some parts of the flim are actually pretty funny! especially what the possessed demon girl says.
tldr;GREAT HORROR FILM GO WATCH IT WITH A FRIEND!

It had its good parts but overall it was a Horror-Bull rendition of a great classic. The story line was as sloppy as the 50 gallons of fake blood they used to make it. The characters should go back to waiting tables because their acting took the life out of this movie. And the dialog... huh... what? This was a disappointing experience for a true horror movie lover.

I saw this at a sneak preview the night before the movie was released. The elements of the original Evil Dead are here - Gore, Absurdity, and some jolts. If you're like me, you've grown up a bit since the first movie was released. The problem is i'm not sure a gorefest is the fun it used to be for me. The original Evil Dead has such nostalgic value that it's held in higher regard than it perhaps should. The reboot still has the gore, although it seems to verge into "torture porn" at times. There is still some of the ridiculous gore of the original, but i found myself cringing much more than laughing out loud. The original was by no stretch a comedy, but the absurdity of it all had most people i watched it with laughing. That vibe is hard to capture, perhaps impossible. The demons were not quite as disturbing in appearance vs the original. This reboot does a good job of matching the ferociousness of the original, and in a packed theater it was a fun 90 minutes. Good, not great.

I was hoping it would be a little more funny but honestly..I really want to see NEW movies, not all these remakes on great classics. Parents, don't take your kids to this movie...it can be disturbing. I sat next to an 11 year old girl and I just don't think it's right to show rated r movies to someone who hasn't at least gone through puberty yet because there are a lot of raunchy inappropriateness goings on in this movie as well.
