The new version with its own variety of horror missed the mark where campy yet horrific fun could have been inserted. Raimi's original early work was cult worthy, obviously. This rewrite changes the premise of a group of college kids out for a weekend of fun led by our would be hero Bruce Campbell, to a group of slightly boring well meaning friends who wish to rehab our new heroin heroine Jane Levy.0ne of the friends a know it all nurse discounts every ounce of pending evil, including the smell of dozen dead cats to withdrawal symptoms...really??? The comparison of how Bruce ends up one armed with a chainsaw from EVIL entering his body, to how Jane ends up one armed, made no sense in the new version. Neither did the use of the cabin by another family sometime between their last visit there and the timing of the new trip there for rehab. It did leave nagging questions that made no comprehensive sense. I found the original funnier yet scarier..The new rewrite does the fim no justice...

If you are a TRUE fan of " EVIL DEAD" you should pass on this one....I was SOoooo disappointed. This version might have been good had I not seen and loved the original. I give this one an "F" for FAILURE!

I had such high hopes for this film. It was a huge disappointment. It was gory, but not scary like the original. The original is a must see for true horror fans. This one is not worth the cinema ticket price. Wait for dvd or streaming. It was claiming to be one of the scariest movies ever. The original is, but this remake is not. In my opinion The Hills Have Eyes, A Serbian Film, and Texas Chainsaw are much scarier. There is a difference in a gory film and a suspenseful or scary film. This film is gory. A Serbian Film and Texas Chainsaw are scary, suspenseful, and gory. If you have never seen the original this one might be scary.

The movie is different from the original.yet has similarities. Seeing the original will not spoil this movie. If you're a fan of Evil Dead, you must see this movie. Also, there are a few surprises to be had. Enjoy!!

After seeing the great red band trailer, my anticipation for Evil Dead was high. So I'm glad to report that the movie almost fully lived up to my expectations. The script is solid with a clever yet simple plot, and okay characters. There is a good amount of tension and a few jump scares, but this one is all about the gore. The gore is spectacularly over the top, but still manages to feel pretty real. You will definitely cringe a few times and, if you're like me, you'll love it! The direction here is the standout. Fede Alvarez does a great job of crafting his own world within the Evil Dead universe. He adds several visual touches that are a nice homage to Raimi's trademark kinetic style while still making this movie his own. My only complaints would be a couple plot holes. I also wished that it could have been a bit scarier. There were a few scenes where Alvarez took his time to build up the tension and I would have loved more of that. All-in-all it's one of the best remakes in a while!
