Old fans of the 90s anime series will be glad to know the rebuild is just as confusing, even if 3.0 take a radical departure from the original series. Also, Kaworu is in it, and he brings all the ladies to the yard.

This Was (Quite) A Trip

This was an odd film, even in comparison to the previous two Rebuild of Evangelion movies (probably to be expected, as the end of the second film took the story off the rails in comparison to the show). The animation was very nice to look at, even if a few shots overdid the CGI a bit. The story started out seeming more like a traditional mech show than Evangelion, but it wasn't long before it was more Evangelion than even the previous two movies, brimming with atmosphere and good old-fashioned existentialism. Also worth noting is that, thanks to the fact that it's now a completely original story, the structure is more decidedly film-like. Overall, I would rate it a bit under Evangelion 2.0, though, partially because it forwent the previous film's side-character development in favor of continuing to delve into Shinji's tortured psyche, and partially because it throws around a lot of terms that the audience can't be expected to know (not that confusion is foreign to Evangelion fans).

Expect nothing

I expected nothing going into the movie based on other peoples opinions and I got what was expected. I knew going in that there is going to be a fourth film to end the series and this is a good build up to it. It looked fantastic as usual too, I have no clue where this is going to end.

A True keepsake for those who love the Eva series!

The film was great, but just like any Eva movie/anime the silence in the film stayed true to the movie. There were many scenes of solitude and quietness throughout the movie. In terms of the staff who helped create the film, the production crew were spot on terrific in creating a true masterpiece! This is a must see for those who love the Eva series, and maybe even those who haven't! The story line will be easy to pick up no matter who you are!

It's new enough to be different and confounding in a whole new way...but it remains heady and interesting

If you love the original series, Death and Rebirth, and End of Evangelion, then you will thoroughly appreciate this re-telling of the classic Mecha anime. This re-envisioning of NGE tells a different version of the story and in doing so presents you with both an explanation of why things go this way, but fill you with more questions. Hideaki Anno pays proper homage not only to his original creation, but to his fans in this adaptation. The English dub of this film continues with the great cast from the original series, and they do a wonderful job. I am thoroughly on-board with this version, and can't wait for the next installment!
