Sci-fi greatness

By The_Separator
Written September 29, 2013
The lines go dead. The crew loose contact with Earth. Gear and emotions malfunction. But Director Sebastian Cordero does not rely on these typical sci-fi tropes to carry the film. The clichés become less and less important as the adventure of the actual mission intensifies. Once on the crew arrive on the moon Europa everything goes wrong. When characters we’ve become fond of start dramatically disappearing we realize this is not a story about the power of the human spirit’s ability to overcome all odds. This is intended as a realistic portrayal of a real mission. What it would actually be like to venture to the far reaches of our solar system. It is a stunning achievement. For 10 million dollars this film transcends basic film devices. The Astronauts’ struggles to survive become incidental. Europa Report takes us past the mere human crusade of survival. Way past. WAIT FOR IT TO GO TO DVD>>>Maybe

I saw this movie in an advanced screening that I paid extra money to see when it was available for its online start in July. I knew nothing of it but friends RAVED about it. It is FOUND FOOTAGE and jumps around and I am SICK of found footage, but that isnt the reason it is a NO. The story line is weak and though it may have scientific accuracy to some points and the space sceens are ok..you cant enjoy the magnitude because the quality of the "Found Footage" is crap. You sit through the entire movie to see that the mystery and alien life form is a freaking multi-colored glowing centinental from Matrix...REALLY...is that the BEST you could come up with? It is a LOW budget B movie that I would have been MAD to RENT little alone ticked I payed 14 dollars for an advanced screening. I normally dont rip movies, but this is BAD and it is so bad I have been watching for the reviews to open on it for a MONTH to warn people. Hate After Earth? Loath this one.

Europa Report is an F grade

Now that there is review on this film. I have to say NO NO! I saw this movie in advance. Take this warning do not waste your money. Very bad story line, does not have an even flow to it. It jumps back and forth from lift off to landing. The acting is a D- grade. Seemed like the script was made up as you go. Go see it in a dollar movie theater or wait for HBO. Don't even rent it through Red Box, or pay on Demand on TV. for the 5 that gave this a GO see must have been asleep when they saw this movie. I will say just one good thing about the movie is about the cinematography, and that is the only thing.

Europa...not Europe. It's about space.

Very suspenseful. It's a "found footage" type of movie, like "The Blair Witch Project" or "Cloverfield." I thought it was very well acted, very well directed and edited. They were able to do a lot with a limited budget. Great movie for fans of sci-fi.

A Film That Stays With You

By Primelenz

While the soon to be released Elysium's have and have not story may divert or entertain you a short time, The Europa Report's powerful story of sacrifice and exploration will stay with you far longer than the time you are in the theater.
