I took my 5 year old granddaughter and though I really liked it, I'm not so sure she did. When she told her parents what happened in the film, she didn't recap any of the "fun" stuff, only the "bad" stuff.
The positive about the film is that there are some fun characters that the little ones will like and the story line is complex enough for an adult to want to watch.
The cons: The story line is a little dark in places. My granddaughter was a little taken aback by one death in particular as the film doesn't hint at death, they actually show it. The movie is getting a lot of comparisons to Fern Gully but I think that is not accurate. The tone of the film reminded me more of The Secret of Nymh, the first American Tale, or some of the other Don Bluth animated movies. Every kid is different but had I known I would be talking about animal skins and death in the car ride home, I may have skipped this movie.

My husband, three year old, seven year old and thirteen year old all enjoyed this movie. So it was great for a variety of ages and fun for a family movie. Loved the humor in it and kind of actually hope there's a sequel.

I just went to see Epic with my 13 year old and my 8 year old. We all loved it. The characters were vivid and quirky. Their gadgets, uniforms, and skills were like The Littles meets Rescue Heroes. The battle of good vs evil was solidly portrayed. And even though there were a lot of fast paced battle scenes, none too dark or gory for anyone. A likeable story that sends the message that we are all different but all connected.

I was not sure if this would be adventurous enough for my kids (5, 7 & 11) to stay focussed. But they enjoyed it very much. My husband & I also enjoyed it.

I ended up seeing the movie twice. The first time I took my 12 year old (girl) and 4 year old (boy). The second time I took my 6 year old (girl). My 12 year old enjoyed the movie, but thought Beyonce's voice was all wrong for the part (I agree). The movie started off slow so my 4 year old was restless until the second half. My six year old said she loved the movie, but I had to ask her a few times was she awake because she appeared to be going to sleep. We saw the movie in 2D and I could tell which parts would have been enhanced for 3D, so I don't feel like we lost anything there. Loved Colin Ferrell & Christoph Walt's voice in the movie and the visual was pretty amazing. Overall I agree with many of the other reviewers, wait for it to come out on Redbox.
