This is a must see movie if you like cop movies or shows. You really felt like you were riding along with them. The hand held cameras were a little hard to handle sometimes but the story line and the wonderful partnership and friendship between the two police officers make you forget the camera. If you are a fan of Southland, you will definintely love this movie. Wonderful actors and very entertaining, Not for younger viewers, very graphic and lots and lots of the F word, almost too much I thought until the next day I listened to an actual recording of city police in a shoot out with cartel (in another state) and realized it did sound the same and the vocabulary was the same. Made me thankful I live 41 miles east of L.A.

This movie was great. I went in thinking it was going to be so-so...once it it started I was pulled in. All the actors in this movie had great performances. I laughed, cried and felt nervous at times. Overall, great movie. This movie is NOT for kids. I was completely shocked to see a mother come in with her son who was maybe 10 years of age. ADULTS ONLY PLEASE!

Well narrated, realistic action drama.

I was skeptical about how and whether I would enjoy a movie shot by handheld cameras. I loved the experience of watching the entire film, except some cheesy dialogue. The camaraderie and friendship shown between the two main characters is very 'scripted', but the cinematography, direction and casting (especially the gangs) pull together to compel a very immersed experience in cinema. I was reminded of the show COPS, from time to time, with a story and a good looking crew of characters. The Pluses: Cinematography, Direction, Casting The minuses: Largely Predictable Storyline, Cheesy Screenplay, Art Direction Warning: If you are prone to nausea from watching shaky film footage, this is one movie you might want to sit out.

Gritty? Definitely! Realistic? Absolutely! Brutal? Immensely! Entertaining? Oh my, YES!! I don't understand why Michael Pena and Jake Gyllenhaal are not at the top of everyone's best actor list this year. Their chemistry is off the charts. Add their performances to a top notch script that is filled with heart, humor and tension and you've got a film that defines what we go to movies for. And for all of it's action and violence, the real story is the loving friendship between the two main characters. Absolutely authentic. I loved this movie!

This is the most realistic police movie that I have seen. The main characters did an awesome job. The producer did a great job of depicting life everyday in the police world.
