Not a perfect movie, some miscasting with a female banger came across as weak and too forced but the main focus was on Gyllenhall and Pena who are fantastically believable as partners first and macho hotshot cops 2nd. For ONCE I liked the handycam style of filming for most of the film here. Hate it for almost all other movies, especially those damn "Paranormal" flicks, but here it adds to the "grit" of southcentral LA perfectly and the believability of casual banter while on patrol. Not a "perfect" movie, some of the plot points stretch credulity and it ALMOST crosses it over from a film to a mindless actioner at one point, but then it reigns it back in. Overall excellent film.

Very realistic movie and the acting was superb. It shows you what cops have to go through to keep us safe. It is just amazing there are people that are so compelled to risk their lives for a living to protect the others. I definitely recommend this movie.

What a movie! On one hand, how can so many people offer their lives up for so much cost to protect the rest of us from so much BS? The LAPD (as well as many other law enforcement agencies) need to be held to the highest honor for the jobs they do. The actors in this movie were excellent. I also thought the camera angles and perspective shots were fantastic. This was quite a cinematic experience and you need a strong stomach to handle the dark truth about America's inner city problems. Not a movie for kids who won't understand that gangster life is not the answer.

This movie ROCKS! The graphic language and imagery bring to view every aspect of a cop's life whether in L.A. or any other large metroplex. There is no pretense in the dialogue and all the actors deliver first-rate performances. The viewer can truly appreciate the problems faced by the police in the area of race relations and the ravages of the drug culture.
Natalie Martinez and Anna Kendrick are especially effective in their portrayal of the women who love and remain loyal to their husbands in the face of overwhelming odds of violence and daily tensions on-the-job.Not for the squeamish, but definitely for anyone who is looking for outstanding entertainment and graphic realism professionally done.

I went into this thinking it was going to be an okay movie, but as soon as the first scene passed, I knew I was in for one hell of a ride! This movie has the best acting I have seen all year. It's so real that you forget at one point your watching a movie. As silly as it sounds in one point in the movie I felt like my life was on the line just as theirs. Superb job overall, people complain about too much cussing but in reality cops do cuss just as much as the guys in this movie. This is a movie I would see again a few times, YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE!
