This is a good movie with POOR photography. The idea that a moviegoer wants to sit for two hours watching a shaky hand held camera is a piss-poor one.
It is a shame that this good story line and excellent actors were wasted with this notion that was distracting and annoying from the first until the end.

Wow did not expect to see a must go rating for this movie. This movie had an awful script and the acting and story line were worse than the script.Several people walked out and i should have been one of them.I have no problem with the word fk, but this was way, way, way over the top.I think i am going to put some fing air in my fing tire and fing get a fing burger with no fing mayo or fing mustard.Take the f bomb out of the movie and its over in 5 min. Using the Blair Witch style camera bouncing and never focusing on one thing didnt help. Since i did stay, 1 out of 10, and i am being very kind.

This movie ROCKS! The graphic language and imagery bring to view every aspect of a cop's life whether in L.A. or any other large metroplex. There is no pretense in the dialogue and all the actors deliver first-rate performances. The viewer can truly appreciate the problems faced by the police in the area of race relations and the ravages of the drug culture.
Natalie Martinez and Anna Kendrick are especially effective in their portrayal of the women who love and remain loyal to their husbands in the face of overwhelming odds of violence and daily tensions on-the-job.Not for the squeamish, but definitely for anyone who is looking for outstanding entertainment and graphic realism professionally done.

Excellent action. Great drama. Awesome actors all around. An inside look at the realities of men and women protecting the streets of our cities. In a way, it also displayed just how bold the criminal element has become.

Not a perfect movie, some miscasting with a female banger came across as weak and too forced but the main focus was on Gyllenhall and Pena who are fantastically believable as partners first and macho hotshot cops 2nd. For ONCE I liked the handycam style of filming for most of the film here. Hate it for almost all other movies, especially those damn "Paranormal" flicks, but here it adds to the "grit" of southcentral LA perfectly and the believability of casual banter while on patrol. Not a "perfect" movie, some of the plot points stretch credulity and it ALMOST crosses it over from a film to a mindless actioner at one point, but then it reigns it back in. Overall excellent film.
