Very good movie. The story while set in the future with a space twist is not all that different from life today, the growing difference between wealth and poor divides and drives the story in this film. Damon is excellent as a man driven to make huge changes.

There's a lot more to this film than meets the eye. Great cinematography and special effects....but the sociology and technological points of view presented could be a stark preview of coming societal phenomena. The dystopian atmosphere was not presented
in such a way that it would be inappropriate for younger viewers.
Sci-fi at its best. The acting was believable, the story was imaginative, the directing was superb...this guy knows what he's doing.

What a monumental waste of time! The "evil" rich destroy the planet, move off, and usurp the poor (aka 99%) while living a life of luxury on a space station orbiting the decaying planet. Enter our (anti) hero and, at the expense of his own life, saves the 99% from a future more miserable than anyone could imagine. I had hoped the absurd exploding body parts would remain nestled in District 9, but low and behold, arbitrary acts of gratuitous blood and guts yet again were the mainstay of this intellectually idiotic film. Lesson learned.

This was by far one of the better movies to come out this year. I honestly don't find myself as thrilled after seeing movies as I used to but this kept my attention enough to say its worth seeing.

I liked this movie quite a bit but maybe it might have been more interesting to have Damon portray a bad guy and the South African lead from District 9 (Sharlto Copley) play the hero. He steals the movie in the scenes he is in. I would have like more details of life on Elysium as others have said. Good actors doing an action movie is great but it would be better for me if there was just a little humor in there. That seems to be missing these days. Mel Gibson, Stallone, Willis, and others made some pretty great action movies in their time and there was always a nice sprinkling of smart-assed humor to go around. Well maybe not Stallone all the time but you get the idea. As for a glimpse into the future I found it interesting that others have said that it seems realistic. My opinion is that a bunch of rich folk are going to take this idea really seriously and get this sort of thing going much sooner than the future of this film. Top notch Sci-fi all in all.
