ELYSIUM. 1: the abode of the blessed after death in classical mythology .

This was a So-So! I feel the title missed the mark as it does not really have any association to the main theme. Though kids won't notice I did not care about the injection into the story of subversive idealistic socialistic health care ideas calling for equality of all beings thus, politicizing the movie needlessly. Politics have no place in this type of celluloid entertainment. Also if Earth had suffered through so much why make the surrounding background South of the border? How about France or The Netherlands? How about what was happening in other parts of the world? It gave me the impression it was shot entirely in Tijuana making it less credible. The CGI effects get an A, Jodi Foster looks great but her acting was less than I expected. Matt did not make me believe his character as well as his female friend.

Not What I Expected at All, So Much Better!

When I saw the trailer for this movie I saw a dime a dozen guns blazing shoot'em up set in a cool sci-fi environment. That is most certainly not what I got. Where the action scenes fantastic, absolutely without a doubt. However, this takes one step further; Elysium is a movie that it able to explain why we are shooting these people up and what makes them so bad to the core. It also has a thrilling story line that kept me at the edge of my seat until the very end. I was not just rooting on Matt Damon because he was awesomely epic in every way possible. But because the story line explained just enough to show me why the people/things he was shooting needed to die. Defiantly a must see and I will admit worth the $10 for once. A note to parents, it is not rated "R" because of sex or anything of that sort, as a matter of fact there is no sex of any kind in the movie at all. It is however graphic violence, though not much worse that the latest Halo game, if you know what I mean.

I enjoyed watching this movie. It was something I have not seen before...very imaginative. It was entertaining to me...others have reviewed this as a so-so movie, but for my entertainment dollar, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Much enjoyed, good mix of sci fi, emotional, drama, action and good plot. Kept you thinking the whole time and great visuals. Nice to see a new film with unique story that hasn't been done 100 times.

Many unnecessary errors

Overall an ok film. I enjoyed the look and feel and the graphic effects were well done, The problem lies in the detail of the story and some scenes where the plausibility and the reality of how things should and do work were left unexplained and thus kept my movie going "suspension of disbelief" from settling in and allowing me to just accept and enjoy the film. There are too many to mention and I don't want to include any spoilers so I wont elaborate. If you are the kind of viewer that doesn't think about how things work and can accept a few continuity errors then you will be fine and may enjoy the show, if not then you maybe be a little disappointed that the director and editors weren't paying better attention to the underlying details.
