I would highly recommend this movie . . . Matt Damon was terrific in this movie but the CG effects is what blew my mind. I don't know how they film this stuff but it just keeps getting better. One of the better summer movies.

Futuristic concept and special effects drew me to see it . . . story line was blah

I saw this in IMAX expecting an incredible experience, however, the accents of some of the characters made the dialog extremely hard to follow at a gazillion decibels, and the action scenes were shot in a way that they almost seemed blurry in the IMAX format. As for the plot, in a word, lame . . . rich people act like stereo typical rich people and crap on the less fortunate people! They tried to make Matt Damon's character interesting by giving him a kind of destiny and deeper meaning, but the back story about the penal system was hardly believable and barely provoked any real empathy for his character. I found it flat. Would have much preferred the idea of Elysium, with a plot and IMAX experience like Oblivion! Now THAT was an excellent movie in IMAX and a heck of a more engaging plot. Tom Cruz I could take or leave, but I enjoyed that 10 times more than Elysium.

I had low hopes going in, I was expecting just a action flick with little to no real story content and it was much more than that. Was not disappointed!

Should Have Been Called This Is What Hollywood Thinks of America

As a sci-fi action flick, it wasn't bad. The visuals were stunning, the technological premises were pretty good. The villains weren't convincing, though, but I could at least understand their motivations (even if they were pretty far over the top). What I didn't like was the 100% constant in-your-face politics of the movie. Elysium is what Hollywood thinks of the United States. It's a Haves vs. Have-Nots. And for whatever reason, the Haves possess a magic healing machine. They choose not to let the Have Nots use these machines. Why? Umm...well...simply because they don't want to? So clearly the Haves are heartless, soulless Republicans who simply don't care about anybody else. And once all the rich people left Earth, THE ENTIRE PLANET FALLS INTO THIRD WORLD SQUALOR. Oh, and there are plenty of Iraq War references in the movie as well. If you're a huge liberal, you might love this. If you don't buy into socialism, you'll be annoyed by the preachy-ness of this movie.
