Who watches the watchers?
From the previews, I expected a much different movie, a more Michael Bay-ish (though the driector does make an effective Bay copy of this) take on paranoia. This marks the coming together of both the director DJ Caruso and Shia Laboeuf, after Disturbia (being sued for being a copy of the Hitchcock classic, Rear Window). This looked like a take on North by Northwest, but I was not entirely right. This has more in common with the Will Smith vehicle, though Hackman and Smith and sorely missed. The good part - a script that gives equal dramatic opportunities to the other leads - Billy Bob Thornton (tired, jaded and unconvincing), Rosario Dawson (jaded) and Anthony Mackie (more to dod that most other movies he's been in, competently rising to the task of playing a dumb movie lead). The action set pieces do demand a certain amount of disbelief suspension, and the movie is long by about 20 min., with at least a couple of fauz endings, and I was tired at the end of it all. Watch on IMAX (DMR).
