This is indeed a violent and bloody film. It's way over the top in graphic detailed killing scenes. However, I thought that the slow-motion scenes were excellent. The special effects were good (not great) and the acting was also only good, not great. The story line was very good and the film actually had a good plot. Because of the fact that the screenplay writer provided an excellent script, the director was able to follow it and do a fine job of direction in the film. If you are the least bit queasy then DO NOT go to this one, nor rent it when comes out on DVD. I gave it a so/so review because of excessive use of the F word and the over the top graphic killing sequences.

When I see a film from Lionsgate, I usually have the phrase "action packed" come to mind. Dredd definitely did the phrase justice. From beginning to end, Dredd's action sequence keep the action junky at the edge of his/her seat. The brutality of some of the scenes are not for the feint of heart. Do not see this movie if graphic violence makes you queezy. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars in the action genre and a 4 out of 5 in the overall movie experience.

I have seen this twice so far, once in 3D and another time in 2D. One of the best action movies I have seen this year. Forget all about the Stallone film and go see this, you will not be disappointed. Karl Urban is fast becoming a favorite of mine.
Kiddies stay away, as this film is brutal in its delivery and very gory. It earned its R rating and I walked away satisfied.
Please, please, please let there be a sequel.

Not much plot but none really needed. In an apocalyptic future where the US is over populated it makes since that chaos will abound. In a twisted way the concept of 'Judges' make sense. I do like that they added a few carrots to this remake. This is a good movie but no where near the level of the Dark Night or Avengers.

Word play on dread aside, this one leaves little to the imagination in the way of gruesome violence. The visuals are stunning but rely far too heavily on a central effect, used extensively throughout the production. In time, it becomes tedious. Can't say this is an improvement on the original. Frankly, they're equally bad. Still, if one is starved for action heroes, albeit hard to imagine, perhaps they'll find something interesting about the Dredd character. The sets and effects are interesting, but nothing new. The play is weak and the performances aren't strong either. On a weekend with about five major film releases, you'll probably find something better to see and in a pinch, catch this on discount night. You'll be glad you did.
