Futuristic butt'kick'n fun ol' school style

    by

This is by no means a great movie... possibly not even a good movie. However, it is a fun movie. They didn't make the mistake of putting a ton of back story in. It's an hour and a half long, which is the exact length an action movie should be.

So, if you're the type that wants an hour of Judge Dredd backstory and a touching tale of how his cold heart melted when he met the right woman... move on, this movie is not for you. If you want to see a guy in a dorky helmet and body armor yell crazy configurations into his gun and then blow sh!t up and set thugs on fire, you will love this movie.

One of the best Comic Adaptations and best action films this year!

This film is a love letter to the comic fans of Judge Dredd and it does so by keeping the character true to his comic roots with no need to give him any B.S humanizing to him. Karl Urban does a wonderful job of bringing Dredd to life by having the hard job of expressing his face with a helmet on and he does it with greatness. The film feels like a love letter to R rated 80's action films ala Robocop where the story is simple but the action is brutal and violent which is a great thing, since not every film needs an overly complicated story this film was simple and sweet. The Slo Mo scenes were well used to the point where it made all the carnage look like art or straight from a comic! If there was a film you need to see this weekend or if you miss old school brutal action films then go see DREDD it will leave you wanting more!

Judge Dredd: Finally the True Judge stands up!

Unbelievable! The dark Judge originally from Eagle Comics has truly arrived! Fabulous adaptation from the comic books. Stallone is NOT judge Dredd. You should never ever see his face. Karl Urban was terrific! I hope that they will plan for a sequel. Our society is turning into that movie's background. One day its citizens will be Judged!

    Disappointed

I'm glad I went to see this movie with an open mind. I loved the original Judge Dredd and this was NOTHING like it.
I really enjoyed Karl Urban in the role of Dredd, but I really like him.

The plot itself just wasn't there. It had some much potential at so many different times, it just never reached it.

*SPOILER* Pretty much a rookie judge and Dredd get trapped in a building where all the gang members are trying to kill them. That's it... there isn't much else to the plot. There is shooting up of the bad guys but even that wasn't out of this world.

My suggestion would be to wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it, there just wasn't enough there to spend the money on going to the theater.

    Not Dreddful at all!

This movie was action packed and just all around Kick-ass, If you ever saw the original Judge Dredd you know that this movie had to be awesome as well. Which it was! If you ever go to see it bring a bro its a bro movie, I brought my gf but shes into this kinda movie and star wars! So if you have an action movie gf take her! All Around 4 out of 5 stars in my opinion

    Great popcorn movie!

    by jlisk

This movie doesn't mess around. It provides just enough plot and character development to contextualize the dizzying degree of ultraviolence and is a true spectacle of murderous proportions! Visuals were great too! I highly recommend this if you are looking for a no frills popcorn movie.

    Decent Re-Make

We really enjoyed viewing the movie despite the fact that the plot was pretty predictable. It entertained me for an hour and a half so it did what it was supposed to dol

My one complaint, the special effects were a little too visceral for my taste. I believe those effects could have been taken out of the movie and it would still be just as enjoyable.

    A great action movie

Not a big fan of the 90's Judge Dredd movie with Sly Stalone, but was blow away by how good this one was. Bare bones action film, with an outstanding performance from Karl Urban. I loved the old Eagle Comics series in the 80's and this movie NAILS IT! So sad it hasn't done better, because we deserve a sequel to this movie. Hopefully it will do well overseas and find a second life here in states in dvd/blu ray market...fingers crossed.

    Expected

Movie is worth seeing, but you should know what to expect. It is an action shoot em up movie with very very cool special effects, I saw it in 2D but it is obvious it was filmed for 3d. Slow motion scenes are awesome.

    Dredd in a new light

I've always been a fan of the Judge Dredd Comics and sagas so I was going to see this movie regardless. I was pleasantly surprised that it was much better than I expected. I've seen all the comic based movies to date and have disappointed and how "G" rated they kept the stories. Even the original Judge Dredd was very "G" rated. Not this one! This movie shows exactly what Judge Dredd is, Judge, Jury, and Executioner. There is a good amount of blood and violence and pretty graphic at times. I found that a well match to this story. The acting wasn't bad but it wasn't great. I do feel, like all movies lately, that the story felt a bit rushed. Kinda like they did a bit too much editing to keep the movie within a time limit. Overall, if you are a Judge Dredd fan, you will probably like this movie. If you are looking for an action movie to kill some time with, give it a shot. If you don't like blood or violence then you probably won't like this movie. Give it a shot

Remake? What remake? ... Forget the old one all together!

I was particularly mad leaving this film. Not at it. But at myself. I had already conceded on the fact that I wouldn't be needing to see this in 3D. But don't make the same mistake I did. Go watch this one with the funny glasses. This is one of those that doesn't exploit 3D for the sake of the thing. I can see how it would actually work well. The visuals are undeniably cool. And it's obvious much preparation went in its delivery.
I am sadly old enough to compare this one to the original one with Arnold. And it is by far a better narrative piece. Sure, back then it was the bells and whistles of the scifi angle, the Sharon Stone, and the Arnold bit. So we were all pretty well distracted. But now that time has passed... Screw that one. This one has testicles.

    Plotless

and totally no storyline. Not even close to up to par with the original Judge Dredd which was played well by Stallone. Just explosions and shoot ?em ups and action. So if you don?t mind no story line but like a lot of mindless action this is the one for you.

    Dredd-Must See

    by Nemezez

This is what the movie should have been! It sticks to the original graphic novel and takes away any limits, hence the R rating. I'll be seeing it again and buying the DVD!

    Intense and Violent Fun Ride

    by sirwel

Not much plot but none really needed. In an apocalyptic future where the US is over populated it makes since that chaos will abound. In a twisted way the concept of 'Judges' make sense. I do like that they added a few carrots to this remake. This is a good movie but no where near the level of the Dark Night or Avengers.

    Judge,Jury,and Executioner

Though Dredd has many cheesy moments, the self-satire is funny as hell and the visuals are very impressive. The violence is kind of an issue but its good enough.
