Forget about that awful Sly Stallone movie (well, I guess we are all trying to). This Dredd movie has just enough comic-book feel with surprisingly good gore. Pace of the movie is just right. Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby make a great team. Nothing bad to say about this movie.

DREDD is worthy

I liked Dredd a great deal. This is going way back, but if you're a fan of Brandon Lee in "The Crow" you'll like this movie. Some violent scenes are a bit over the top - but the film never ventures outside of good comic book splatter. The visual effects were astoundingly good - they managed to infuse Mega-City One with a touch of grungy reality that really set the film apart from the slick CG of similar genre. I left the theater thinking I had just seen something special and look forward to seeing it again once more before it leaves the cinema. I say GO! It's worth your time and money!

I judge this remake awful. The sentence is death...

OK, first off, Sylvester Stallone's 1995 'Dredd' wasn't great. Not bad, but other than the immortal words 'Double-Whammy' wasn't particularly memorable. But it did have the good sense to not take itself too seriously. Not so this Dredd. It is 95 minutes of grim, unrelieved bloodshed. It starts off with three gang members being skinned alive (yep, that kind of movie) and tossed off a 200-storey building by Lena Headey's vicious drug-lord MaMa (and she has a blast with the role). Enter Dredd and his psychic rookie played by Olivia Thirlby. They go in to make their arrests, then have to kill their way out of a nuke-proof public housing project of the future. Speaking of Thirlby... she's the best reason to watch 'Dredd'. I saw it in 3D, but she is the only multi-dimensional character in the entire movie. While a step back from her work in 'Juno', I can't wait to see her in something better than this waste of her talents. I hope Hollywood is paying attention... @140bytemovereview

But not great. Okay, it's really good. At best I'd give it a 7.5, maybe an 8/10. There wasn't that much that really stood out to me. The 3d made one or two scenes stand out, but ultimately, I think you're better off seeing the 2d version, if it's available.

The cinematography was great...I certainly hope we aren't headed for such an existence. Also, I wouldn't bring any young kids to see this one. ...still not sure why Everything is in 3D!
