2nd best comic film of the year!

Dredd is an excellent film that stays true to its comic book source. Being rated R & a lesser known hero to the US audiences doomed it at the box office but don't let it pass you by.

    He is the law...

Extremely, unflinchingly, unapologetically violent. It's a movie about a post-apocalyptic wasteland teetering on the brink of anarchy. What were you expecting, a ballet?

I really, really enjoyed this movie. If you've ever read 2000AD and are familiar with this character and this timeline, then I think you'll buy into this story and will enjoy what Karl Urban brings to the personification of the good Judge.

I thought both Urban and Olivia Thirlby gave fine performances. If you were worried that this wasn't going to be gritty enough -- don't be.

I judge this remake awful. The sentence is death...

OK, first off, Sylvester Stallone's 1995 'Dredd' wasn't great. Not bad, but other than the immortal words 'Double-Whammy' wasn't particularly memorable. But it did have the good sense to not take itself too seriously.

Not so this Dredd. It is 95 minutes of grim, unrelieved bloodshed. It starts off with three gang members being skinned alive (yep, that kind of movie) and tossed off a 200-storey building by Lena Headey's vicious drug-lord MaMa (and she has a blast with the role). Enter Dredd and his psychic rookie played by Olivia Thirlby. They go in to make their arrests, then have to kill their way out of a nuke-proof public housing project of the future.

Speaking of Thirlby... she's the best reason to watch 'Dredd'. I saw it in 3D, but she is the only multi-dimensional character in the entire movie. While a step back from her work in 'Juno', I can't wait to see her in something better than this waste of her talents. I hope Hollywood is paying attention...

    3D or not go see

The absolute best part of the movie is the use of dimention in the camera angles and action scenes. I won't go into much detail for fear of spoiling what little plot there is, but if you enjoy a 3D experience, and don't mind some very lifelike blood and guts, then this is a movie worth the price of admission. For the rest of the movie, I found it to be a little cookie-cutter with little else to support the intense action which is sad, because Karl Urban usually delivers better performances in my opinion, and Lena Heady's villain is a complex enough character to actually evoke empathy from me, but without the added effects of the third dimention, the whole move would just be in a word... flat.

Lots of violence, interesting special effects

    by

The movie was decent if you consider that it's just an over the top shoot-em-up film. The drug that has plagued the city's residents caled "slo-mo" makes users experience life at 1% actual speed. It seemed like an excuse for the filmmakers to show bad guys' heads getting blown off in slow motion 3D.

I wasn't expecting much but Dredd was actually a good movie. Lots of action, blood, and gore... Even a good storyline.

It´s an action movie but the story is quite lame.

    Just ok

The action sequences were just pure gratuitous violence almost to the point of unnecessary. There was hardly any story line at all. No back story. You don't understand why Dredd is legendary or why he's so dedicated. The rookie's story was at least a little better. I love action flicks but this one was just ok. Frankly, the original was way better. Just like Total Recall. The original was much better. If it weren't for the 3D, it wouldn't have been worth seeing at all,
