The scene is a dingy rooming house, where the body of a former vaudeville actress is found tied to a chair. The woman has been beaten to death, and Friday (ack Webb) and Smith (Ben Alexander) deduce that her killer wanted to find out what she kept in the huge trunk in the middle of her room. In an exceptionally well-directed scene, the detectives use "state of the art" electronic surveillance to get the goods on the two main suspects.
