The estranged husband of Nora Hamlin (Marian Richman) has apparently committed sucide: he was found with the gun in his hand in a room locked from the inside. But crime lab technician Sgt. Allen (played by a pre-Gunsmoke) Dennis Weaver) determines that the bullet in the body doesn't match the gun. Investigating, Friday (Jack Webb) and Smith (Ben Alexander) find the shell of the bullet in question in a vacuum cleaner--at which point the victim's mother-in-law (Lillian Powell) reveals the whole sorry story. Based on the Dragnet radio broadcast of September 28, 1954, this episode was later adapted as a three-act play by James Reach. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
