The buzz word for Don Jon is in the title of the review. Any guy ages 18-25 ish can completely relate to this movie, especially those of us privileged enough to have that crazy ex. The movie centers around the theme of meaningless sex, which is immensely prevalent in society. I loved the relations it made to real life. Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a great job as a writer, taking witty stabs at family life, religion, relationships and routine living. The message that "Don Jon" discovers is simple and universal: Don't get trapped by routine, live different, make life mean something.
The film was spot-on in its details relating to younger men. It managed to focus on romance without being mushy or uncomfortable, which results in a rare, guy-friendly romantic movie. Overall, it was great, funny, witty and, most important, felt very real.

Basically quite stupid. I don't think there was more than 1 theme and although there was some depth to that, the "plot" never went anywhere and I don't think there was much depth to the characters, despite their being good actors/actresses. The F word actually lost its impact as it was excessive and boring.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt gave it a good try but the NJ stereotypes were super annoying. Scarlet Johansson was pretty awful which did somewhat ruin the movie for me. I think that it could have been better if the acting was better. The relationship with Julieanne Moore's character totally came out of left field...it would have been with more character development...to go from him hating her to sleeping with her was a bit of a reach. It would have been much better watching it with some drinks at home!

It's difficult to understand why anyone would give this a good review. I am liberal but no plot, no real story line, just gross script. I wouldn't even recommend it as a rental.

As I sat in my seat wondering why there was a younger crowd in their 20s 30s 40s so to speak and my husband and I are in our sixties, I quickly realized why when the movie came on and I saw that Don had a serious problem with his porno watching, actually I found the movie to be cute, definitely on the R, but if you are not a prude, you will enjoy the movie like I did, if you are a prude don't go. I thought the acting was good, and Don was quite the cute character. Scarlett Johansen was a sexy NJ girl that captured the accent quite well. It definitely had an ending I wasen't expecting. Of course it was funny in some ways and other ways you just sit there thinking oh my. Don't be a prude check it out.
