Great life lessons

This movie was great. It shows many life lessons for younger adults. It was very funny and you can see how the protagonist character grew. I really enjoyed the movie and would really recommend it for parents to bring their 18-19-20 year olds to....if you are not uncomfortable seeing some of the pornographic items with them. It will promote discussion for some very important issues that they need to learn sooner rather than later.

Wanted to love it, but didn't

Saw the previews in theater and on TV (how could you miss it?) many, many times. The movie looked great: eye-candy for my wife and I, both. The acting was good, not great. And the premise for the movie showed promise, but it just never got there. Which is funny since, that's pretty much what the whole movie focuses on! Anyway, didn't hate it, but didn't love it either. Okay way to waste a mid-week afternoon I suppose.

Real Life vs Reel Life

Enjoyable, lots of laughs, lots of thought. Great acting with thumbs up for directing. I knew Gordon-Levitt could do it. In a real world, (not this one) would be good for teens with lots and lots of talk afterward. Much there for self analysis: why do we do what we do, how do I develop an authentic self? Where was this movie when I needed it? In my teens, movies hinted that a woman could slap a man anytime and in response he just rubbed his cheek and he was always, always a gentleman no matter what she did. Wow. Glad to see some of the honesty and messiness of living.

I went in with pretty low expectations, and they were met. By the end I sort of cared about the main character, but not much. I was so bored of the caricatures, instead of characters, in this movie. Julianne Moore was great, her part of the movie was relatively interesting. Scarlett Johanssen was really good as a vapid nothing, but why do I care about a vapid nothing? Life is too short to waste at movies like this.
