This delightful story features strong performances in a tightly crafted film. A very strong directorial debut for Gordon-Levitt, this movie playfully exposes the disconnect between escapist fantasy and everyday life.

I went into this film with very high expectations and I was given even more! A spectacular film Especially seeing as it is his first Directed and Written film. Splendidly funny and Candid. Wonderful layers of meaning through out the film make it even more impressive for being a virgin film maker. The themes were quite clear but this didn't detract from the film nor feel heavy handed in a negative way.
I feared this would turn out to be a "Rom Com" like in the trailers Don Jon even says he doesn't like. Thank goodness this isn't the case. Perfect characters all around and plenty of heart. I'm not ashamed to say Don Jon made me cry, sorrow and joy. My Girlfriend and I were laughing pretty much all through out with the very real humor and situations this film had. One of the funniest movies of the year.
Of my top ten of the year I feel this might be 4th or 5th which is great for a premier director's film. I would score it a 9 out of 10. A Must See Film!

Enjoyable, lots of laughs, lots of thought. Great acting with thumbs up for directing. I knew Gordon-Levitt could do it. In a real world, (not this one) would be good for teens with lots and lots of talk afterward. Much there for self analysis: why do we do what we do, how do I develop an authentic self? Where was this movie when I needed it? In my teens, movies hinted that a woman could slap a man anytime and in response he just rubbed his cheek and he was always, always a gentleman no matter what she did. Wow. Glad to see some of the honesty and messiness of living.

This is a "coming-of-age" (bad pun) movie for 35-year olds. It's a good, sweet movie though, despite all the porn scenes. This is a movie about a guy who learns to be a real human being by giving up his addiction to activities that require solitude and secrecy. Scarlett Johanssen and Julianne Moore were fantastic in this, as were all the family members of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Gordon-Levitt was very convincing as the lead character. He made a sea-change in personality throughout the movie, but it was believable. That takes some real acting chops and I'm impressed. Go see this movie if the porn clips won't bother you too much.
