It was not at all what I was expecting (tho I had not researched it ahead of time, so it was my fault maybe).
I was expecting a character arc or two, and I suppose in a way it did get there to a certain extent, but not any satisifying way.
The imagry of masterbating to porno was a bit over the top. They did a decent job of limiting exactly what you do see, but the jagged nature of the cuts and interruptions and in-your-face quality of it really turned me off.
He did finally come to terms with the notion that his addition had completely warped his notion of how a sexual relationship should be, but I felt no satisfaction with how it got there and even then it was a bit oddly done.
As for the sister on the cell phone... I kept waiting for the reveal, but it never came, except for one statement of insight and that was it. There was so much more that could have been reaped from that constant reminder that she is always texting.
Also, If strobe lights bother you, do NOT see it.

This delightful story features strong performances in a tightly crafted film. A very strong directorial debut for Gordon-Levitt, this movie playfully exposes the disconnect between escapist fantasy and everyday life.

I went in with pretty low expectations, and they were met. By the end I sort of cared about the main character, but not much. I was so bored of the caricatures, instead of characters, in this movie. Julianne Moore was great, her part of the movie was relatively interesting. Scarlett Johanssen was really good as a vapid nothing, but why do I care about a vapid nothing? Life is too short to waste at movies like this.

Enjoyable, lots of laughs, lots of thought. Great acting with thumbs up for directing. I knew Gordon-Levitt could do it. In a real world, (not this one) would be good for teens with lots and lots of talk afterward. Much there for self analysis: why do we do what we do, how do I develop an authentic self? Where was this movie when I needed it? In my teens, movies hinted that a woman could slap a man anytime and in response he just rubbed his cheek and he was always, always a gentleman no matter what she did. Wow. Glad to see some of the honesty and messiness of living.
