This movie is a DOG. Disguised as an homage to spaghetti westerns, it is actually a black exploitation movie in the mold of Shaft. It's a cartoon full of one dimensional white villains for Django to kill. The dialog is not only hopelessly anachronistic, everyone, including the white gentry, spout profanity as if they're from the '80s ghetto. We are presented with Django the slave, who never having ridden a horse, is instantly an expert rider, and ends the movie with Roy Rogers style dancing horse tricks. We are presented with Django the slave, who never having held a rifle or pistol, is instantly a crack shot and the "fastest gun in the South".
Because Tarantino is Tarantino, all the actors turn in outstanding performances as if there was a “there” there. The movie is embarrassing and Tarantino and all the actors in it should be ashamed of themselves.

This is Tarantino's political anti South, anti white propaganda film.....and this from a Tarantino fan. He has Christoph play the identical character from Inglorious Bastards and even uses the same trick of speaking a different language so that the group around him will not understand the plan. Why repeat the same scene and charter.
This is basically southern slave owners substituted for Natzis. Natzis, however, focused on the animation of the Jews and domination of other countries. While I have limited knowledge of southern slavery, I doubt this is how most slave owners treated their 'property."

Typical Tarrantino film. Lots of blood, long and funny to some but stupid to others! Will not see it again. Didn't hold a candle to Pulp Fiction and can't imagine it being nominated for any award!

Funny, great acting, a spaghetti western,with a few surprises. A Western which takes in pre Civil War South, where the bad guys get their due. The audience loved it and applauded at the end.

Yes it's violent, but this is Tarentino at his best. The constant sense of outrage at the behaviors of the period driven characters is perfectly tempered by the absurdity of their beliefs and actions. The emotional whipsaw of hilarity; then violence and sometimes violence AS hilarity was nothing short of genius. Remember how conflicted we all felt watching the unhinged; unapologetic violence of Pulp Fiction while laughing so hard it left us dazed and confused? Well Django is an all-out thrill ride that demands you pay attention to the incredible injustice that was and in all to many instances, still is rampant. Anyone upset by the 100+ utterances of the "N" word-trust me; it's use is more than balanced by the sheer ignorance and ineptitude written into the character portrayal of the slave owners and those who supported the institution. This is the most fun I've had at a movie all year. What a way to end or start the year. See this movie; early and often! Thanks Quentin.
