    The moral of the story

I have to admit that I wasn't sure what to expect. M. Knight has made some very good movies and some very bad movies. Scary or suspenseful movies are my favorite so I knew I would see this no matter what. I was very pleasantly surprised!! Yes, it was supsenseful. Not as scary as I would like but what was most gratifying was the underlying story which made the film more than a scary movie. It made it interesting and I wanted to know more about the characters so it kept my interest. Much like Signs, this movie grabs your attention, keeps you guessing, makes you think and ends leaving a moralistic message for you to ponder on your drive home. Granted this movie was not difficult to figure out but the acting was very good and the suspense was adequate. IIf you don't look for anything more than that and you make sure you get some good popcorn or Milk Duds you will enjoy this movie and be glad you saw it. Good movie for adults. Teens might be bored and it is not for children.

"Oh, and I wanted you so bad" to be a horrible movie but came out surprised

    by MovieRN

Went to see Devil at a midnight showing because I got off work early and needed a good laugh! To my surprise it was creepy and kept my interest. No weird off the wall surprise just a good ole fashion horror movie that reminded me of an episode of the twilight zone. I went home and got on the elevator at my apartment and had a weird feeling. Haven't had a movie do that to me in awhile. I went in expecting the worst and came out surprised. Let see what the rest of you thought! I could not guess whom the devil was, let see if any of you can!!!

Must See but Plot for Mature Crowd

I wasn't sure I wanted to see this because you never know what you're getting from M. Night but it's been an hour since I left the theater and I'm still thinking about it. I can't remember the last time I've been to a movie where people actually clapped at the end. This movie is pretty deep and will leave you thinking about life and your choices. Because of the maturity of the message, I would say it's for adults only. I wouldn't take any kids under the age of 16. If you are looking for a lot of killing and action this movie isn't for you, although it has both. It's more suspenseful with some killing and action. I usually only write reviews for really good or really bad movies. This one is really good; A MUST SEE MOVIE!!! After the movie, I gave my wife a curfew of how late she can be out with my daughter driving without me in the car. You'll see why after the movie :)

    Great Movie

Okay, so I was reading the reviews for this movie, and my girlfriend and I were having mixed thoughts on seeing it; however, after watching it, we both agreed that it was an excellent choice to see. It is definitely one of M. Night's best movies. I know this may not sound like a lot, but it is a great movie. The whole movie will keep you on the edge of your seat with all of the creepy sound effects, lighting, and the actors. I do have to agree the others as far as the religious part. This movie is definitely a religious eye-opener; however, if could also be seen as simply karma giving people their due. The ending was awesome, too. It was a definite twist, and it made us freak out. It is a perfect movie for a group of friends or a couple that is looking for a scary movie that will have you thinking about the decisions you make in life. YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!

Great Art definitely worth seeing (even if they got the ending reversed)

A great morality play well above the usual "pop" trash produced in a 500 channel, you tube world.

The ending is reversed, however as in real life it is the police as a rule who are corrupt and need prosecution (and forgiveness outside the law) rather than forgiveness from the rule of law and a continuance of their quadruple and quintuple everyone else's pay and benefits.
I suppose the inclusion of the "security guard as one of the characters is supposed to make up for this and one has to conclude that even great artists and movie makers HAVE to leave in the real world (and must not offend our masters). It's still great ART and intelligent viewers can draw their own conclusions and their own analogies.

    Thanks Artists!

*Ahem* Forgive Me father For I Have Sinned...

This movie was great, very scary and suspenseful. It keeps you guessing and wondering "who could be the devil?" Although almost all the movie is in an elevator, it still manages to keep you interested and on your toes. It also really makes you reflect on your life and your wrong-doings. Tying a horror movie to a moral is pretty refreshing. I mean, it's not in your face religion, but it's definitely teaching a lesson worth learning.

    A great suspense thriller

    by

Well I saw Devil last night and I must say that it was a pretty good movie. Lots of great suspense and there is a pretty good "twist". Definitely check it out. Worth a look.

The Ending! Oh My God, The Ending!!

User: "Not as scary as The Woman in Black, but definitly a, "GO" movie! the setting stayed pretty stationary location wise, but the acting, the story, the plot twists..."

    M. Knight: "What a twist!"

User: "Yes... thank you M. Knight Shamaylan for you input... Anyway, all of this ties together real well. I was very disappointed in the people who wouldn't see it just because M. Knight's name was on it. GO SEE IT!"

Best M.Knight movie since Sixth Sense...

...but still liked SS better. Keeps you guessing, has a moral without getting overly 'religious' and makes one anxious and in suspense. For me ,the ending was a surprise. Definitely will see it again, and hope the co does well with future collaborations promised. Oh,not alot of great acting, which is usually a big deal for me,but I still recommend on big screen

Not your usual M. Night film if that's what your worried about

This movie had some creepy undertones and played well for the little over and hour running time. With a quick look at all the people in the elevator prior to getting in, the movie starts off fast and never really looks back. Aside from some flashbacks later on that help tie together the loose ends, there is not a moment where I can remember that the movie drags on. It's an interesting look at how people respond to one another in a crisis which is scary in and of intself, let alone when your stuck in an elevator with complete strangers. Without the usual M. Night ending that has you wondering what you just watched, this ending is solid, although I'm not alone when I say the cop is a hell of a lot nicer than me. The relatively unknown cast performs well and the spanish security guard plays a great role with some unintended comic relief. A good option if your looking for something different this halloween.

    Devil of a Time

Great movie! Just what you'd expect from M. Night Shyamalan! There was more action going on than you'd expect since this was located primarily within the walls of an elevator, but it also impacted the lives of the whole building/skyscraper. Usually those within would only hear about a stuck elevator in passing, either while waiting to catch the next one or later after it's all over. In this case, the passengers of this one seemed pre-ordained to end up there, even though it initially seemed a "fluke" that these strangers received the same fate. The intertwining stories of each were gradually revealed as time went on. It was no surprise to me who the "Devil" was finally revealed to be, but that did not cause me any disappointment with the entire story. I did, however, forget that M. N. S. always likes to throw in a "twist"; so once more, he caught me by surprise (pleasantly). Well worth the time!
