Too good to be hidden in Non-mainstream release
Finding this movie at "a theater near you" was not an easy feast. Alas I had to resort to fly from Raleigh NC to Atlanta GA (thank God for working for an airline) and meeting up with my best Bud to see it. We were both glad we went. It is a nice coming of age story, depicting the friendship of four boys, that really goes so much deeper than friendship. You rarely see this theme played out as a story between "boys only" without the usual buddy/buddy references or without the boys being jocks. Furthermore this movie shows that boys can be emotional and sensitive, without having the fear of being labllled as homosexual as is so commonplace these days.
The movie is set in the 1960s, and I loved to see that the boys' thought of rebelling was sneaking a smoke and a beer. Yet nobody then freaked out about it. And it doesn't mean they all turned out addicts!
Nice sencery shots in the beautiful Australia!
