Alright, as an avid fan of Death Note, I have to say that I actually like the movie more than I like the anime or manga. The ending to this two-part movie is just epic. Of course the first movie ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, but that's to be expected, after all, it makes you want to see the second movie even more.
Now, there is also a third movie that has come out, but has yet to be subbed. It is called Death Note: Change the WorLd. I really look forward to this one as well, if the previous two are any indication of the astounding awesome that makes up this movie.
The actors fit, the voices fit for the shinigami, and the story deviates from the original plot, giving us a glimpse into one of those 'what if' scinerios.
I personally give this movie a five out of a possible five points. You should absolutely go see it. I know I will.

This movie should be seen by any fan of the Death Note manga or anime.
The movie veers away from the anime halfway through the first movie and completely in the second but they are both still worth watching.
I didn't like Tatsuya Fujiwara as Light probably because I've seen him in many movies and I just didn't think that he fit. It's not that he did a bad job, I just don't see him as Light.
When I first heard that Ken'ichi Matsuyama was to play L I was disappointed. I had seen him in a few series and the Nana movie so I didn't think he would do a good job. I was happily surprised when I saw the movie. It was like he was born to play L. He did an amazing job.
The CGI is horrible, so much so that it may cause you to laugh when you first see Ryuuk, but all in all the story is good, the acting is well done, and it's a great movie for any Death Note fans.
Also with the exclusive behind the scenes extras (which are not included in the import DVD) so that should be interesting.

I was very impressed with it. For starters the dubbing was done by the same voice actors who portrayed the characters in the animated series. All of the actors did a wonderful job depicting the quirky characters they were based off of.
I hope they will release the 2nd 1/2 in the theatre as well!

I am a huge DeathNote fan. I own a DeathNote, all the mangas, plushies, a tie, a messenger bag, basically you name it I probably have it. So when I found out that the first DeathNote movie was going to be shown at an anime convention I went to, I was the first inline to see it. And long story short, after seeing both the DeathNote movies I found that I hated the live actions. They dont follow the manga series at all and I was very disappointed. I dont regret seeing them, but I wish more than anything that they would have been a lot better.
