I LOVE Johnny Depp and enjoy most Tim Burton movies. This movie had the best of both. If you lived through the 70's, you will get some extra laughs as there are many subtle references (often visual) that bring out sometimes chuckles and sometimes belly laughs. I didn't watch the series of the same name so I can't attest to its relevance to those fans.
While there was some violence, it was downplayed and not gory. There are some allusions to sex, but it's not overt. With the exception of one scene - in that one, though, the actors just rolled around and were basically raucous. (They destroyed a LOT of furnishings)
I'm looking forward to seeing this movie again - I expect we'll be adding it to our movie collection as one of our favorites.

I thought the movie was pretty good. A lot of subtle humor that aparently many of the folks in the theater I was at didn't quite get. There were no gut-busting moments but a lot of good chuckles. They don't really show any actual killing or sexual acts, they are merely implied but implied very well. I liked this aspect of the movie, a change from the norm it seems. Depp was dead on in his art as he seems to be pretty much all the time now. I liked that Michelle Pfeiffer was in this flick, but came away feeling like she had just gone through the motions and maybe wasn't that into the role. I'm not saying she was bad, just that it felt like she wasn't as committed as she usually is. The storylline was great, well written and easy to follow. Each scene made sense, no quantum leaps in the story to leave me wondering what happened. Overall it was a good movie and was fun to watch, but I'm not raving with excitement about it.

I can't compare this film to the old TV series, but I thought it was a hoot. It has all the elements of a "horror" movie and all the tongue-in-cheek humor that made me laugh - a lot. The Burton-Depp-Elfman team has done well, not their best, but good enough to say " Go see it".

Rental movie. Both my wife and I said we should have seen the Avengers for a second time. She was excited to go but disappointed at the end. Me too. Johnny Depp does what he can to salvage the plot. Most of the funny parts are in the trailer.

Loved Dark Shadows! Johnny Depp was great! The story stays somewhat true to the TV series. I was a big fan in the 70s, so this brought back some good memories. I wasn't aware of the younger actors, but they played their parts well. Michelle Pfeiffer was good too.
If you haven't see it, go! BTW, all the 70s music was also great! It started with my favorite song "Nights in White Satin". Alice Cooper as a musical guest was a nice touch too!
