Dark Shadows

This movie just missed a little something one way or another. If they wanted campy-comedy, it missed. If they wanted campy-horror it missed. Johnny Depp's character was overdone, and for him redundant, nothing original here. In addition, his make-up was horribly done and hard to get past, so clearly fake as to make it silly. Very disappointing, wait for the DVD. It's got some entertainment value, but not spend $40 on tickets, sodas, popcorn value, not even close.

I am old enough to remember the original series which I loved. This version was wonderful because it had just enough humor but Johnnies portrayal of Barnabus Collins was dead-LOL- on. Just enough of the serious to make it a good story, not a total parody. Go see this if you remember Dan Curtis's great soap.

When I heard that they were going to be making a Dark Shadows movie, I was really looking forward to seeing it. When the show was on TV, my friends and I would hurry home from school to watch it. After reading critic reviews, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go and see the movie. After reading fan reviews on the Fandango website, I decided to go and see it. I'm glad I did. It was a fun movie to go and see.

Hilarious and Entertaining

I LOVE Johnny Depp and enjoy most Tim Burton movies. This movie had the best of both. If you lived through the 70's, you will get some extra laughs as there are many subtle references (often visual) that bring out sometimes chuckles and sometimes belly laughs. I didn't watch the series of the same name so I can't attest to its relevance to those fans. While there was some violence, it was downplayed and not gory. There are some allusions to sex, but it's not overt. With the exception of one scene - in that one, though, the actors just rolled around and were basically raucous. (They destroyed a LOT of furnishings) I'm looking forward to seeing this movie again - I expect we'll be adding it to our movie collection as one of our favorites.
