From the vantage point of 1969, Julia has cured Barnabas (Jonathan Frid) of vampirism. Not knowing this, Edward (Louis Edmonds) and Quentin (David Selby) -- actually Petofi in disguise -- set fire to Barnabas' coffin, little realizing that they are merely destroying a doppelganger left in the ex-vampire's place.
