My expectation was for a downer experience. Wrong! What an inspiring story of someone who took control of his life when faced with overwhelming odds and uncertainty and ended up helping a lot of people and becoming a better person in the process. Captures the misconceptions and attitudes towards AIDS/HIV in the mid-80s when we weren't quite sure how contagious it was. Highly recommend this flick!

Matthew McConnaghey and Jared Leto are outstanding in their roles. I did not know that the movie was based on a true story, which made it all the more powerful. Some may find parts hard to watch, but it's important to do so.

Anybody who knows me know that I absolutely loathe Matthew McConoughey. So hear me when I tell you that his performance is absolutely knock-down terrific, and Leto's is as well. Riveting story about a shameful part of American history. What are you waiting for - just go!

I have never seen such a dedicated character immersion.
I have never seen a character cry with his entire soul.
Those two things made the movie a go for me

The movie covered so many issues that I am requiring my domestic violence and substance abuse groups to attend. The group members must bring the group facilitator their stubs from the movie in order to get credit for group attendance. Great education relative to HIV AIDS. Also how use of alcohol, drugs and other toxins lowers ones immune system
Also vividly depicts society response to homosexuals. It accurately depicts that love is not a matter of the physical appearance of an individual or sexual preference. One of the first actual truthful information relative to the lifestyle of the transgender individual.
GREAT Work. Hope my clients come away with new information and new positive attitudes, a better understanding of the disease itself, and the issues that homosexuals face in their lives.
The film clearly educates relative to the LGBT community. We pray for more understanding and tolerance of the diseases, the way the disease is transmitted and by whom.
