No, this movie isn't for everyone. It is complex and it makes you truly think about a lot of things. It isn't two hours of mindless entertainment. It is one of those rare films that allows you to come to your own conclusions and take away from it your own messages. And there in lies the gift of it. In a summer full of movies that do nothing but visually overwhelm you, this film relies on a viewers cognitive attention and ability to weed through the surface and go deep and follow along.
Cronenberg's almost word-faithful adaption and the absolutely every precognition of economic times make this film so current that it is overwhelming at times. Pattinson's is haunting as Packer, desperately trying to see and connect to what eludes him. Giamatti, as Packer's Jiminy Cricket, delivers 20 minutes of complete brilliance. Plan to go at least twice, if only to appreciate the sheer beauty of the language.

I can usually find at least something redeeming about a movie but this one just lacked in every category. The writing is all over the board, plot is hard to follow and the characters don't relate to each other at all. Paul Giamatti gives a good performance in the end but to no avail. I was pulling for Pattinson to have a great performance but the script never let him.

A must see...... I assure you. Bold, strong, and strange at times, but uniquely intelligent. Pattinson & Cronberg are brilliant.

I watch many many movies of all kinds and finish even the dumb ones. But this I just quit 20 minutes into it. Not even slightly entertaining.
